What a ride..freaky, hilarious & exhilarating!

I have to share with you the experience of my rather exciting bike ride home tonight.(This is along the swan river bike path that isn't on the road)

The evening Met forecast for Perth stated we were in for squally winds with showers. Ok, I can handle that. It was horrible this morning in terms of the wind but somehow thought the met service might be wrong again.

Errr..NOPE!! I threw my rain jacket & vest on and headed off from work. (NOTE-I don't carry a backpack or much else. Just my wallet, cell phone, keys. I'm rather light..) There was a wind but it wasn't too bad. Kept on going & then hit the Narrows Bridge(a main bridge in perth that goes over the Swan river) and met the wall of wind. :eek:

For the next 10-15km I could not take my hands off my bike at all. The wind was so bad that I was almost sideways at times. Not only that but I was being pushed all over the bike path. Add some sea spray, medium sized waves from the river crashing over the small sea wall plus very little tree cover and you have a rather exciting ride!!! :eek: :)

I held on for dear life and must say it was the most fun I had all day!!!! how can I not love saying that I biked into a headwind/sidewind/tailwind for fhe first half of my ride!!! I spent alot of time giggling about it on my way home.

Latter half of the ride was great!! Of the two intersections I cross it was the last one that made me wonder if i should call Ian. I clipped out to wait for the pedestrian crossing light and had to dismount and hold on for dear life! I then thought "nah, by the time i get onto the Roe Highway bike path(last 16km of my ride) the rain/wind will have stopped" ..

I was right!!! No rain, headwind or anyone on the roe highway bike path!@!!

Got home & was on an adrenalin high!!!

Don't you wish, at times like that, that someone was filming you? I bet that would be pretty wild to watch!

that is so fun when things like that happen and you live to tell the tail. I saw a dust devil the other day and purposly jumped in it (with my eye's closed) just to feel the wind whip up around me. It is the 2nd one I have run into and been able to jump into. Am I werid? Anyway...
Hey you never answred my ? about your avatar. Who is the picture of? And since you live in Perth if you ever see sand sculpture any place, talk to them cause it might be our old business partner. He's wife was from Perth and missed her parents so much they moved back three years ago. I don't know how many people leave in perth but sand sculpting is rare so maybe?

Hey CC, glad you made it home safe. By the sounds of it you had an adventure of a life time all rolled into one commute. I've never been in winds or rain like what you've described, but I can truly side with you when you say that you giggled. I've done that on some of my rides that don't turn out as planned. LB-it would be good to be filmed in bad weather like last night. I was going slowish but had a couple of guys zoom past me and I wondered what are my legs doing wrong??

Brandi-oops sorry..The new avatar is Brian May (Amazing guitarist and handsome dude from Queen). There was a sand sculputre event a while back but I didn't attend it as it was just a bit too busy. I'll keep my eye out for more.

I have many choices for riding home-the long way with no traffic but often very windy, the short way with: traffic, a pub, one very busy/awkward intersection and most likely a wind tunnel or the train. I can't face the short way as it's too short and feel bad taking the train. Add to the fact that I know it's only in the first part of the ride from the CBD to the Roe Highway that has the crap winds. Hopefully next month the weather will improve :rolleyes:

RM-the tsunami warning has been lifted :) It would not have affected the Perth & southern regions. It would have affected the northern part of WA..about 2000km north of me...

When my kiddos aren't such kiddos mebbe? When we make a bit more cash? When one of my boys is in an Aussie tour?

Not this year and prob not next :( - but hopefully in the not too far future... but only if you bring on adventure weather and elemental forces to forge our riding in. :p
