My new Trek 3700 WSD went to the bicycle gravehard on Saturday

It was parked in the driveway and the next thing I knew I heard a bang & crunch & she was under the tires. YIKES. I raced over and picked her up and all I could see was the chain was off. I attempted to put the chain back on with no success.

Loaded her up on the rack and raced to the LBS. At first glance, they told me they could fix her and it would cost about $20. And then I heard the words no one wants to hear. She was beyond repair, the frame was severely bent and the left pedal was bent into the frame. :( I've only had this bike since May and now she's down for the count -- no fixing her. :eek: So I loaded her back up on the rack and went back into the LBS.

I couldn't be without a bike. I was thinking about getting a road bike next year and would have loved to have taken the plunge this year, but my wallet says otherwise. The guy at the LBS was very understanding and showed me quite a few alternatives. I took a Trek 7.3 FX WSD out for a test ride and decided to take the plunge with her.

I'm impressed with the gear shifting and how fast she goes. Quite a difference between the Trek 3700 and the new bike. I've ridden her every day and really love the difference. Although, I'm still sad over the Trek 3700, it was a stupid accident that should not have happened. The bright side is that no one was hurt and I have a new bike. :)

And what have you done with her mortal remains... you said you popped her back on the rack... where did you take her?

So hard to let go of the "loyalty" feelings when you hop on a new bike - and enjoy it...

But pleased you ARE enjoying the new Trek so much.

I kept Miss Trek 3700, aka Blue Streak -- can't bear to discard her. My brother seems to think he might be able to fix her, but I don't hold out much hope. The frame is bent pretty badly, as is the left pedal and the derailer. She is a beauty and I'm not quite ready to put her out to pasture. If my brother can't fix her, I'll keep her for spare parts.

I'm really embarassed to admit this, but I'm the one who ran her over. :o Don't quite know how I managed to do it, but I did. I was getting ready for a ride and had checked the tires for proper inflation. I took her to the back of my car and parked her. Usually when I'm done checking the tires, I would put her on the rack -- don't know why I didn't do it this time. I took the pump back into the garage and changed into my bike shoes. Without thinking, I jumped in my car and began to back up when I heard the thud and crunch. :eek: I immediately stopped and went forward again. Placed the car in park & raced to the back and saw her on the ground. I was sick. :( I put her on the rack and noticed the chain was off. Took her off the rack and back into the garage to see if I could get the chain back on. After several attempts, I loaded her back on the rack and went to the LBS.

I was shaking and had tears in my eyes. I don't know why I didn't put her on the rack to begin with. It was such a stupid mistake and I am sick over it.

But on the bright side, no one was hurt, except for me being embarassed. I also ended up with another bike which is pretty sweet. I'm really happy with the new bike and sad over the demise of the old one. And trust me, the old one wasn't old - I purchased her in May this year.

Even if the frame is totalled, there are plenty of parts that you can keep to use as spares, on a future build, or just to remember your first love...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does stuff like this! I also know that I will never ever buy one of those car racks where your bike goes on the roof. It would be only a matter of days before I tried to drive it into the garage without taking it off.

Congrats on the new bike, and spare parts is a good idea!
