A while ago I posted that I had no idea where I was going to put my new recumbent when I got him home.

The problem is solved - for the moment.

For a while he was perfectly happy taking up the space in the shed that my husband's bike uses. His bike is either at work or on the (covered) back porch, so there was no immediate conflict.

A workable, but temporary solution.

Our lovely Younger Daughter solved the problem by doing horrible things to the front end of our car. No harm to YD, but the car is in the shop until Tuesday at least.

So...when we got back from our ride today, DH & I just opened the garage door, rode in, and (big brass flourish) left both bikes right there where the car wasn't.

OK, so the car will come back (fingers crossed, & all that), but for now we have a 2-bike garage. Can't beat it with a stick.

Now, to consider the rest of the winter. Hmmm build another garage???

Will the car fit in the shed?

I have a one-car garage - and my car is happy to share it with all of my bikes. I use a "lean-against-the-wall" rack that I got from Performance - it fits 2 bikes, and also fits in the garage to the side of my car. The bikes hang parallel to the wall so both types of vehicles really do fit. Here's a link to the page with their storage racks (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=6600).

Thanks for all the help, guys. I fear that the real solution is to de-clutter, de-junk, and generally get rid of Stuff. Probably will never happen.

The real problem is that the garage is stuffed so full of, well, stuff that the car doors open just enough to get into & out of the car. I'd love to use the vertical racks in the shed, but that has limited head room (she says diplomatically).

In the end, I suspect that I'll take DH out to the shed and do what we always do in this situation. We'll jostle, shake, coax and generally MAKE all 4 bikes fit in the shed, at least while the streets are not fit for biking. It will be tight, but we can make it work - if we don't try to do anything silly like take quick rides on nice winter days.

Don't try this technique at home, girls & boys, leave it to the pros.

For the moment, however, I'm getting a real kick out of opening the garage door and riding majestically out onto the street. Long wheelbase recumbents have Majestic cold. I love that bike.

Hmmm, maybe the car can sit in the driveway? I'll work on that.
