I did my first century yesterday. Amtrak ... from Irvine, CA to San Diego. It was a big success and I'm happy to report the "hoo ha" is doing just fine. :) Certainly sore, but not too bad at all.

The weather was amazing. Couldn't have been better. 65 degrees at the start as promised and held up wonderfully all day. I felt so strong for the first half and could hardly believe we had already done half a century. In fact, every time we stopped at the rest stops, I couldn't believe we were already at whatever point we were at. During the second half I started to feel the soreness in my legs .... and ... ahem ... the hoo ha. ;) But, it was never overwhelming. Not even when climbing Torrey Pines, the steepest part of the ride 78 miles into it. About a mile or so of about 7% grade. Being on the tandem, we go slower than everyone on the hills, but seem to make up for it not only on the downhill, but on the flat.

Our official time from start to finish was 6:15. Our official time riding, not counting stops, was 5:22. Our average pace was 18.6 mph. Average cadence 81. 3350 feet of climbing.

This is extremely good for me for a first century. I know it would be slower on my single, but Dh is very proud of how well I did and how strong I rode up until the end. I actually could have gone further. But I'm glad I didn't have to! :)

Woo hoo! I rode a century! Now I'm psyched to ride my single in an organized ride. I think I'm doing Inland Express in Riverside in a few weeks. The 50 mile version. I'll shoot for a full 100 mile century on my single sometime after that.

Yay for me!!! :D :D :D

Thanks everyone. Every now and then it hits me that I did a century and I simply have to say so to whoever is nearby. "I did a century!" :D

LOL, it is especially good with the non-cyclists!!! They are always most impressed with riding 100 miles...great for the ego!! :D

Congrats!! I love telling non-cyclists I did 100 miles. They look at me in awe and like I am crazy. Boosts the ego right on up. :D Now you are ready to take the new single on one.
