energy in my house!
I just had a feng shui assessment done for our home and things are not looking good!
Bad energy is being generated at every turn! Yikes-
The poor master( expert) was trying to be polite but I think she wanted to tell us just to move!
Oh well at least we have a plan now- hopefully her suggestions will help ( major renos are in our future ( no.. she is not associated in any way with the renovation business:)
hints that things aren't good
a) when the feng shui master asks how your health has been and is shocked to hear " not too bad"
b) Feng shui expert asks how your relationship as been since moving in- ahhh..she says knowingly- you really really need to work in this area
( what? I do? I thought that was just being married- doesn't everyone have less sex???)

there are different "schools" of feng shui- this woman was very kind but the school she is from is different from the little I know.
I am still glad I had it done- it confirmed the changes we were going to make-in some way ( I know this sounds crazy) I am glad that she felt things weren't good because we felt that way too- much of feng shui is just good design.
The good news is we now have a plan:)
That is what I think is so funny about feng shui- it can all seem so dire and then the fix -so simple- for us because our house needs more metal energy she suggested we get a clock for the hallway- I don't know the proper name- just a clock that keeps time with a pendulum- pretty simple solution-
I'll let you know if it works:)

Pika, did you have a good connection with the feng shui master? Did you click, or not? For me, that would make such a huge difference about how much I would follow her advice. That's me, it's all about intuition.

What kind of reno's are you planning? That's going to be so exciting! What else did she say you needed to do? More butterflies? :D

The good news is we now have a plan:)


When Silver and I married, we had a nasty avocado green sofa (with dog pee stains on the corners), some lovely orange velvet wing back chairs, and other nasty, nasty stuff from our parent's basements:eek: :eek: :eek:

We did however have a nice piano...that neither of us can play:D :D

But 21 years later (:D today is our anniversary!!!:D ), we now have two well furnished homes.

But, we bought quality along the way and not fad styles. As a result, all the furniture we've accumulated is still in faithful service and looking great!

So, buy quality...and remember that funky colors in style today may simply look funky and dated next year...AND follow your heart, not your feng shui master. They may give advice, but in the end let the decision be yours...you're the one living there.

Its got a regulation sized ping pong table and is ringed with about 5 bikes.

ZencenturyLOL- I have no idea why but birds - statues etc are meant to be in the south part of your yard - dragons ( for protection-I think) in the east and turtles- representing your family members all safe and tucked in the north. - at least in my yard- not that I have a menagerie of crazed yard gnomes or anything- at least not yet....:p
Kimmy That is pretty much how I felt before she came over.. I was nervous..we have "stuff" everywhere...
I think the idea is that you want enough space so the energy can flow- too much clutter blocks the natural flow of energy coming and going..so maybe the pingpong table might be ok- so long as you can get around it:)

Mr. Silver- you and I are on the same page- my husband not so much- it is all about the "deal" with him:D so maybe I will quote you:)
This assessment was not so much about decor but more about room placement- ie the place place for the kitchen, bedroom, room for hobbies etc etc-
It was all quite interesting- like I said really much of it is just good design.
LBTC We had been planning on a big reno- it will be done in stages though- basement first then kitchen/living area when we have a) the time b) the money:)

A lot of feng shui is common sense. You can get a book on feng shui and just do some basic work in your house to get the same effect as a 10K renovation.

I just helped a girlfriend redo her kitchen, using feng shui as a basis. The kitchen was dark, deep, and hardly had any countertop (all along one windowless side wall.) There was an enormous dining table up against the far wall (also windowless), which was painted white. We got the table and chairs out of the kitchen, put up shelving and a baker's rack with countertop for that far wall, hung shiny bottomed pans along the bakers rack and wall (reflective surface for the windows opposite), and got an island for the middle of the floor. Now her energy flows much better, I'm told. It was just a practical change - and it changed the way she and her cat actually use and move about in that room.

Think about how you use your space MORE than what the mystery of feng shui is. Do you face a wall when you eat or work? Put a mirror there, above your head, reflecting the area behind you. When you walk into your bedroom, where is your bed? When you lay in bed, can you see out the bedroom door? Wind chimes are useful for the metal part, and also let you know when you have a breeze. If your house is dark, put holiday lights on a tree or bunched in a corner. Place stones in corners or for paperweights. Think "elemental."

:confused: Okay, this doesn't help me at all. I have butterflies and other bugs on sticks, worms, frogs, a rat, a strange looking pointy headed swiss gnome, and a statue of shiva's head. where are these supposed to go????

Yeah, I've always just thought of feng shui as a fancy term for 'aesthetically pleasing', at least for my tastes anyway. We're in the process of redoing our place now, slowly, and it working so that most rooms we've 'done' end up being very minimalist, preferable balanced and with soothing colors and whatnot.

Though, zen has a point. I think my yard could definitely use some pink flamingos, I mean seriously, whose yard couldn't?? :p

Pink Florida Flamingos surrounded by deciduous trees and fallen fall foliage--what would the Feng Shui master think about that? Do you think her head would explode? THAT wouldn't be very calming. :eek:

Juju, I think this is clearly an example of the very rare species flamingus plasticus, I have heard they are the only species of flamingo naturally found in the united states, and that they migrate yearly from tract houses everywhere to their normal winter habitat, 'active' retirement communities in florida..... they must not have started their winter migration yet!
