It was a gorgeous, warm, sunny day and I had plans to go for a cycle this afternoon.

Then my phone rang. The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hello"

My Friend Heather "Hi. It's me" (I did think it was odd her phoning at this time.

Heather: "What are you doing right now?"

Me: "Having a cup of coffee. Why?"

Heather "Can you meet me in Devizes?"

Me: "WHAT!!! You're HERE!!!" (my friend lives 300 miles away)

Heather "Yes. I'm here"

Me: "Uhh, haven't enough fuel in the car" (I'm getting really mean where fuel is concerned and haven't been paid my wages yet as boss is on holiday and not due back till Monday)

Heather "No problem. I'm on my way"

Me: "Heather, you are soooooooo dead"

She's only down for a couple of days visiting her family. We spoke on the phone the other night and she didn't let on she was coming down. It's the first time in 3 years we've seen each other and it was the best surprise I've had in ages:D We're going up to her house in 3 weeks time for the weekend but I didn't expect to see her this soon:D

She's recently taken up cycling but has arthritis and (against my advice) bought a second-hand mountain bike. She wants me to find a bike like my Raleigh for her (she did ask me if I wanted to sell her and I said no) so tomorrow I'm on the hunt to find a good second-hand bike for her and take it up when we go there in a few weeks time. Have to get a rack for the car.

Have to admit it upset my plans for today but what a smashing way to have them upset:D :D :D

I'm sure you'll find her a bike, consider yourself fortunate to have a friend like that ( I know you do).

We've been through a lot together. We met nearly 12 years ago in all places - a Womens' Refuge. When I moved down here the guy I was engaged to dumped me after a couple of months (found out later he'd done that to four other women too:mad: ) and I had nowhere to go except the Womens' Refuge. The first time I met Heather she was standing by the sink in the kitchen - and she was black and blue from head to foot:( Her (now ex) husband beat her to within an inch of her life:mad: We've been friends ever since. In fact, we're more like sisters than friends and her two daughters are like nieces to me (and vice versa).

She was Maid of Honour at my wedding a few years ago:D
