I had been planning on doing the 30 mile Tour De Goliad on October 20. It's been a ride I've been wanting to do since I first had a slight interest in cycling.
However, I just found out about a Hill Country Cycling Camp for Women (http://www.formsite.com/fit2train/form440648455/index.html) that occurs the same day.
I still consider myself a newbie to cycling and think the camp may be a fun way to really get to know the sport better.
What would you do?
***Correction, Tour de Goliad is not a charity ride. I'm doing that ride in September, Tour de Goliad is just for fun.

A 30-mile ride is one that you can do unsupported on your own at a later date. i would do the camp.

Can you describe just how newbie you are? Both sound fun, and I did a women's mtn biking day lesson/camp not too long ago, and it was awesome. Really boosted my confidence, and learning in the company of women was terrific. If the road ride has been around, and will continue to be around for future years, I would do the camp, because it may benefit you more at this point in the game by boosting confidence and building skillz. I guess I would just think about which one would inspire me more!

Bought the bike in May 06, rode heavy that summer with group rides (average 14-15mph/average ride 20-30 miles). Moved to a new town in October 06, didn't ride group rides as they are either too slow or way too fast for me. Stopped riding in around November(discovered I had gallstones & required surgery + troubles after surgery). Started back up last month, on my own & going slowly (8-12 miles every other day or so). Plan on going to the slower group rides starting this Monday.
So, not brand spanking new, but new enough to know I can/want to get better:D

Thanks for posting this. ;) I did not know about the camp, it looks great and I just signed up. I was considering doing the same ride, but this looks like more fun.

Just a thought - do you know about the Cannon Express ride at Gonzales?

It might be a way for you to get to do a ride in the general (sort of) area as well as go to the camp.
We are planning to this one, and maybe the Goliad one too. (thanks for posting about the Goliad ride -- that's how we found out about it:) )

I would jump at the chance to attend an event such as this. It sounds like the tour ride is an re-occuring event. Who knows you may meet riders at the camp from your area and you make friends who are also riding/training partners.

Do the camp! I have done plenty of organized rides and I am sure you can find another the next weekend. If I had $250 I would already be signed up for the camp.
