Some how or another a toad got in to our house. We have no idea how it got it, or when, but last night my kitty found said toad.

The results were not pretty....poor toad and POOR KITTY!!!

We came out of the family room and there was kitty barf all over and kitty was foaming at the mouth and there was kitty saliva foam all over the place.

We rescued the toad, cleaned up the mess, washed out kitty's mouth and then jumped on the net to find out about toxic toad reactions.

It was one for the books, that is for sure....

 Oh dear..For both creatures..

Made me think about what a croc must feel like after eating a cane toad  Cane toads kill crocs & other creatures...only way to stop them at the moment is paint thinner apparently...

They have poisonous toads in Jersey?

Or maybe toads just don't taste very good...

well, glad kitty (and mr. toad) is okay!

I thought all toads are poisonous to cats & dogs??

Paxil once got ahold of a small frog and it was not a pretty sight. Three in the morning, I here dry heaves, and I'm yelling, "outside, outside!" she runs for the door.

Frogs & toads aren't pretty with pets.

I knew of someone with a pet named Paxil. I thought it was a very clever name for a critter. Can't remember if it was a cat or a dog, but I liked the name.

Isn't "Paxil" an anti-depressant drug?

Poor toad. I've never seen a toad come in the house before. Poor kitty. I suppose that's one critter your kitty won't try for again! I hope he's okay.

Regina--Yep, I have OCD and when I was first diagnosed, my doc recommended getting a dog before trying meds. So, it seemed fitting to name her after a drug :) That was 7 years ago and her name oddly enough fits her.

Toads taste disgusting to cats if they try to eat them - same goes for frogs too hence my cats only play with them and don't try to eat them.

Glad both are OK.

Only way to stop who??? How???
Do you paint the cane toads with paint thinner to save the crocs?
:p
Or the crocs mouths with pain thinnner to prevent the cane toads from jumping in there?
:D
Either way, with all those fumes, I guess you have lots of very happy crocs and toads

I love this crazy thread. It's given me a good laugh this afternoon! My best to Kitty, Toad, Paxil and all the woodland creatures... especially the ones painted with paint thinner. :p

Is this the amphibian in question?

I can understand why kitty found it so enticing:D

Thanks for your kitty concern. He is doing just fine. He cringes a bit when we refer to him as toad licker, but he will get over it. He must have been so happy with his new toy, until the foaming started!

My rottie girl caught a toad once. She came running around the corner of the house foaming at the mouth and looked like she had rabies. It was pretty funny after I got over the panic and realized what happened.

Love the lab pic! Poor guy doesn't look too happy.
