The Boy and I went climbing today and so we get on a route and I go to lead it and what happens? I get off-route, end up on some lichen, and fall. Damn near busted my ankle all to hell. And then the only thing I could think of (aside from, obviously, how thankful I am that it wasn't worse) was that I probably wouldn't be able to do the tri next weekend.
Oh bugger, there goes $100 down the drain...
Here's to hoping the swelling goes down and I can walk on it by next weekend. If not I wonder if they'll give me a refund or something....

OH MAN! Scary- and so glad that you're ok! Could've been much worse, I guess. Did you break your ankle, or is it a really bad sprain?
Sorry that you won't be able to do the tri. Hopefully if you can stay off of it the swelling will go down enough that you can walk the run portion. I hate for you to miss your tri! :( Some RD's are generous and will cut you some slack on the entry- some won't. You most likely won't get a refund, but all the RD's that I know will usually postpone your entry until the following year, or to a later race (if they have one).
Rest up, take good care of that ankle- and keep us updated on how you're doing! :)

Yikes Kimmy. That's scary. I'm glad you're relatively alright. Take care of that ankle and don't push too hard to get back too soon. It's only money and not worth risking your health.

No, it's okay Ruth, nothing bad happened. Actually it was a surprisingly good fall. I was in NY and got off-route and onto some lichen and a hold came off under my foot. My partner had a good catch and all my pieces held, I just hit a bit of a ledge on the way down with my ankle. I'm really sorry to have scared you!
I went to the doc's the other day and they didn't seem too concerned about it, gave me an xray but I haven't heard my results yet and I'm able to weight it, just have to walk kinda gingerly on it. It's just bad timing for the tri, if it were the weekend of th 11th I think I'd definitely be fine for it, but as of now I'm really marginal on whether I want to stress it more or if I just want to do the race at a really easy pace and walk most of the run.

If you were just cycling, I'd say, get your ankle strapped well and do it anyway - we've had a few turn up at club racing with ankles in casts or heavily strapped...
but running on it? I know its gutting, but you might just have to not do it - I don't suppose you could convince officials you need a runner? Could you bike and swim?
Wishing you fast healing, Kimmy

Haha, lol now i'm having visions of getting those silly skate/shoes and doing the run in them! I'd likely give myself another sprained ankle! :D
