Has anybody seen 'the devil' in the tdf this year? Me and bf were just saying that we don't think we've seen him

Yeah, Didi is there.
I have seen his tridents on the road a few times and seen him once or twice.
He is sponsored now (since a couple of years ago) so is prob'ly slacking off

I haven't seen him... not even a trident Margo has better eyes than me!

One of my sons think that the cameras may have had a directive not to televise him so-as to

1. discourage outlandish copycat-ing
2. not enourage others to get sponsorship to get on Tv by being out-landish

Just a wondering - he hasn't heard that from anywhere

Painted on the road they were.

I caught a brief glimpse of him on Stage 14, on the first HC climb.

P.s. he used to be known not to take showers the whole 3 weeks of the tour.

Spluch writes -

Didi Senft, also known as the Tour de France devil or El Diablo, is a renowned German inventor who has created over 100 bicycles including the largest in the world as listed in the Guinness Book of Records. This picture shows him seating atop his latest bicycle creation which is made up of 10,000 bicycle bells.

We saw one of his giant bicycles when we came down Plateau de Beille 2 years ago during the Tour. Amazing. We have a picture on the other computer - I will try to add it in. We missed seeing him, though. We were pretty much trying to get the heck off the top of the mountain after the stage and were pretty focussed on just not killing anyone. (Oh and my swollen and I hoped not broken foot from where Jean Marie le Blanc's car ran over it. )

Eurosport mentioned him this AM as being on the Port de Bales (I only have audio, not video at work). They also mentioned that he's losing his sponsor (another fallout from the German media pulling away from cycling).

I saw him about half an hour ago, menacing Vinokourov I think it was.
(1 mile to go right now.)

I love that devil. Just caught him on the replay. The chicken was pretty good, too.

This got me thinking, can you imagine how it must smell near the summits-all those people, camped out for who knows how long, especially if they are drinking as much as Bob Roll says they are? Add limited bathroom facilities (i.e. none ex. motor homes) and it could be really icky.

If I were a TdF rider, I would be REALLY focused near the summits. . .

You have no idea how rank it can get.

In 2004, we did the RV thing, and one of our camp outs was 2 k from the summit of Plateau de Beille. It was great, but we had to park at a little bit of a slope because of how things were - we just couldn't find a level spot. Well, the RV refrigerator doesn't work if you are not perfectly level. Imagine a few hot days and pate and cheese...   We were glad to get down from there.

It was SUPER fun, though. It's a big roving party. We met some great people (including the entire Leipheimer family). We drank a lot of pastis and rose wine. I'd do it again in a second.
