I read on one of your posts that you did a du on sunday. I need details. Was it run,bike,run? and how many miles on each and what your time was if you don't mind answering; My first du is in 2 weeks and its 3,12,3. Would love to hear how it went for you and how speedy you were.

Hey Shawnada,
Are you excited about your first du???? Those distances are great distances for your first. Not too long, but long enough that you can get a good rhythm going. Normally I don't like du's because running is still pretty difficult for me (still trying to recover from a knee injury 2 years ago). I prefer tris when I can get all the running out of the way at once. :rolleyes:
I know you've been training (from reading other threads of yours). Have you been doing bricks? Have you practiced transitions between the disciplines yet? I moved up 3 spots in the overall standings just because my transitions were speedy. It's free time (no exertion), and can really help you out overall. Ok- enough questions.
I did the du, but it wasn't a stellar performance. I have to preface it by saying that we've only had "summer" weather for about a week (rainy and unseasonbly cool all June- very hot for the last week). I hadn't trained in heat and I got severely dehydrated (you know, the kind that makes you nauseous and have the chills and get really cold when it's 100 degrees outside). ;)
It was a 3K run, 24K bike, 3K run (roughly 1.8 mile runs and 14.9 mile bike).
My time was 1:30. Had a great bike split (47 min) and good first run, but my second run was very slow. Just didn't have any juice left. Had to stop at the water stop and find some e-caps just to get some sodium in me. Not my best moment, but a reminder that the heat is on!
I'm sure you'll have a much better race than I did. :) You know you have to tell us all about it when you're finished, right???

Excited isn't the first word that comes to mind, more like nervous excited, why and please don't get a flat tire and embarrass yourself because it would take me all afternoon to change it. Other than that I feel I'm ready. I live in Boise, Idaho and its triple digits and everything is on fire. I have been doing my du distance every Saturday morning 3,12,3 in 80 to 90 degree weather for the last 4 weeks. I do brick workouts all the time with alot of cross training in other areas besides run and bike. Physically I'm ready, now i just have to not let adrenaline and nerves get me. The race is in Portland at 8:00 in morning so it should be a lot cooler than the weather I'm training in. I just hope its not real windy.. I'll let you know how I do when its over with. Thanks for your advice and support.

I'm excited to hear how your du goes, too. I just sent in my registration for my first, which is in September and I am NERVOUS EXCITED too!
I think I am going to go watch a triathlon on Sunday, and I am doing a team du at the beginning of September, so hopefully I'll feel relatively comfortable with the logistics of things when it comes time to "du" it on my own (boo, bad joke).

Just focus on having a good time, and let the cards fall where they may. You sound like you're VERY prepared shawnada- so you've done all you can and race day will take care of yourself. Don't sweat the stuff you have no control over (the weather and course conditions, flats, other racers there). Just have the race you're prepared so hard to do and you'll have a great time!!! At the du on Sunday four people flatted on the course and 2 went on to finish (the other 2 re-flatted and had to DNF). If you flat, change it and hop back on. For the 4 who flatted- others stopped to help so hopefully there will be the same camraderie on your course!
Have a great time, and I can't wait to hear all about it!!! :D (and you too, Northstar).
