If anyone has reservations for camping or motel in/near Markleeville this weekend (Friday and Saturday preferred) that they won't be using, please contact me at Lorri (at) VeloGirls (dot) com.

Yes, we procrastinated, dangnabit!

Don't forget Gardnerville or Minden, NV - they are a straight shot to Markleeville and closer than SL Tahoe. I have a friend who stays there for Death Ride and it's maybe 1/2 hour max.

Oh! A little off-topic (not about lodging) but, I didn't realize the DR was this weekend! Good luck you, you hardy souls! I admire you so much for doing this ride! And, good luck to all your "ducklings" MP!

Camping years ago at turtle rock was finding a piece of flat ground. No campsite no nothing. Just a flat piece of ground.

One year we were tad late getting to the camp ground. We arrived around dusk and saw a piece of prime real-estate. Flat not on hill, short walk to the building...That's why we ended up pitching our tent on a top of an ant hill. Around mid-night, we escaped to the car and slept in the bucket seats. :o

And we were woken to the sound of train, rooster sound and Jimmy Hendrix's rendition of Star Spangled Banner. Blary eyed, shivering and sore... But it was a fun ride.

On the first pass, about 1/3 of the way up some joker wrote on the ground "having fun yet??" Keep an eye out for the Aspen grove on the first pass. When you get near it, you are near the top of first pass.

Keep your speed down on the backside of Monitor. There are two major hairpin turns. If you enter going more than 30MPH, you won't make the turn.

On Ebetts, you are near the top when you see the waterfall.

I think it might be hot and dry this year so take a chap stick for your lips!!

Make sure you collect all the "dots" so you can sign your name on the poster!!

Wish you lots of fun,
