Well, the longest and most boring stage ever ended with a thrilling and very surprising finish.
Fabian is beyond cool.
I had to laugh though, the peleton was cruising at 18 mph at one point. Good lord, that must be recovery ride pace for them.

I don't get to watch it, but enjoy reading the play-by-play on Versus' website. I loved reading every other comment being, "well this is the slowest stage in a TDF ever in the past 19 years" but I have to say, my favorite parts are where the writer (not sure where they pull the blurbs from) comments on the riders 'answering the call of nature' and today the comment where they mention Fred Rodriguez and how he had "10 stitches on his arm and a dislocated shoulder, but it seems to be fine". Hah!

Talk about slow! Family dinner delayed over an hour.
But what a finish! Saw Cancellara at the head of the peloton on the left (of the screen) as they'd just rounded that last bend and he looked "right there" but I dint think much more about him as I thought the break-away four would just hold on. And then the Yellow Jersey came steamin' through. Did you see those thighs?!!?
Zabel second again - always the bridesmaid. Cutie-pie Cavendish finished 9th tho' which is a good confidence builder for the Boy Wonder especially after that fall yesterday where he was flat out and facing backwards.

I was listening to Eurosport's coverage all through the "Sunday ride in the park" portion of the race, then less than 10km to the end the feed just stopped! Thank goodness for live text updates. Now I know to not turn on Versus tonight until at least 10:00pm ;)
I did notice in Velonews' coverage that Dave Z's being "grilled" by the press about his contract with CSC ending this year. Can't wait to hear whatever announcement he might make on that!

Being in San Francisco, I gotta get up at the crack o' dawn to catch anything live. Today, I was all dressed and looking at my watch and the tv and thinking... I'll be *late* if I wait for this to polish off.
So I hopped on the bike and zoomed in. Half because I wanted to try and catch the finish on streaming video at work, and the other half just muttering "I'll show you punks a recovery ride..."
Well, I had the fastest commute in my life, got the computer booted, and caught the last fourty-five minutes (!) of the race with the absolutely stunning finish. WOW!
So far, this tour has not been lacking in the excitement...

I need some of that live streaming video too! I missed the live finish cause I had to get to work. I did catch the rerun on versus.com when I got here though. It was an awesome finish.
Once they hit the mountains and the stages take longer, I always miss the finishes, like today looooong stage. bikerHen

I got it livestreaming from versus also. There's a direct link from the cycle-licious blog ( http://www.cyclelicio.us/ ) ... scroll down 'til you get there... and links to other good TDF stuff.
I was seeing glimpses here and there between helping folks in the lab... and thinking "they just don't look like they're working that hard!" (and thinking ... welp, after that crash, they're all thinking "if you don't push, I won't either!")
... and then ... oh, my, that was really really fun to watch!!! Serious cahunas!!!

Well... it was sooooo slow that although we have finished watching the live cast we dvd-d last night, we didn't get the last 6 miles!!! We had programmed the DVD for 3 hours - not 3 hours + however long the extra slow extra 6 miles take!!! Don't these boys know we rely on them to fit in with MY TV/DVD programming!!!!
I am working from home today, so will be able to watch the full replay in a couple of hours - hopefully I'll get to see the end which apparently sounds a bit more exciting than the rest of the stage...
But aren't the scenery and 'scapes just delightful??
What lovely weather they had today - especially considering yesterdays wetness.
