AS you may know, I put together some RUSA permanent routes. I Thought I would be my only customer. Was I ever wrong! and now, I've got a e-mail from my RBA (Brevet Administrator) wanting to run a brevet over one:eek:
the one problem is which one
Route #1:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Rancho-Hemet-200K
Pluses : really flat(2938 feet),easy to navigate.
Minues: not much for scenery, and it's an out n back , so don't have a problem.
10 miles of roads with no shoulders. Plus you could have some traffic in the afternoon
door #2:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Victoria-200K
Pluses :lot prettier route, plus you come with come within 5 miles of the Start finish twice
Minuses; 4285 feet of climbing, the vast majority in the last third. the route is all urban - stoplight grand prix conditions, but you do may more fueling options .
At thi we both have two different ideas (but I can persuaded to change my mind)
do you Ladies have anything else to say?

How can route 2 be prettier if it is more urban?

4200 feet of climbing over 126 miles really isn't that bad.

What's the date?

V.

Well , I guess beauty is the eye of the beholder.
Route 2 goes along the foothill of the San Gabriels . like it.
Weeh I told some that I had laid out a route to Hemet, their response was "Why do want to ride your bike to Hemet(sorry, bIker hen) It does have its moments, too
It's going to be in October - the actual date is TBD.

Oooh, let us know. The weekend of the 20th is out for me but any other weekend I'd be game.

Ditto what V said - looking at the maps I would expect the less urban route to be prettier.

And double ditto - 4200 feet in 125 miles is cake - relatively speaking. If you're doing 125 miles, that is not a lot of climbing. (There are plenty of folks on this board doing 10k centuries.) It is 1000 feet more than the Santa Rosa 200k we did in March. I really don't think anyone would have noticed another 1000 feet of climbing over 125 miles.

With my family, I cannot plan any more travel for bike riding than I have or I might be tempted to join you.... :D

Tentatively, it's going to be Hemet (door#1) on 10/13. I offered my services to Mike (San Diego's RBA) that day, so I may not be riding - look for me at the controls

No offense taken. Why do you think I live in Washington State now! :D Hemet is now a nice place to visit every couple of years or so. bikerHen
