I'm in the market for a summer jersey that will take me through long distance rides (centuries) during peak summer temperatures of 80-110 degrees.

I've settled on this pair of Assos H FI Lady's (http://www.assos.com/en/womens/detail.aspx?article=47&color=5) shorts.

My preferences are white or light colored. I'm not a girly girl, so flowers and the like are out, and I prefer short sleeve or sleeveless for this distance, definitely not long sleeves or tank tops.

I'm leaning towards this (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=24934) Castelli jersey with the procool fabric, but I think I'd be happier with a silky single layer fabric like this (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=24896). Unfortunately, the inside seams on this jersey were too harsh on my skin.

Do any of you ladies have a favorite summer jersey that makes the heat fairy endurable? I overheat a little easier than most, even after I'm fully acclimated. What fabrics or cuts do you suggest for the best wicking and cooling performance?

those shorts are clever. white on the top where you'll get the most sun!

When it gets too hot, i just don't ride. bleah.
i will eat those words, I know.

I love the Etxe Ondo line for warm weather, either sleeveless or short-sleeve. The silky fabrics fit close & wick well, and the mesh panels give great air-flow to cool. I overheat very easily, & have learned through trial & error to steer clear of all the great-looking jerseys that have sublimated designs. The fabric has to have a tight weave to give sharp outlines to the designs, hence they don't breathe as well & I cook in them. Don't worry about the inside seams bothering, because the finish work all through the line is exquisite.

Aren't those shorts nifty? I would never wear white on the booty portion... way too much yucky sweating in that area that I won't force any other fellow cyclist to stare at! So those were perfect.

Kaola, I didn't think about the design of that jersey impacting it's breathability. I'm glad you mentioned that.

I would love to give Etxe Ondo a try! But so far I've had zero luck finding someone that carries any of their women's jerseys in white or even yellow.

I love the other colors and prefer them when it's cooler out, but for these afternoon July and August rides in TX, the darker colors just aren't the way to go if you can help it.

I'll definitely keep searching though.

That was a shameless solicitation:D ,Trek

I find my basic Cannondale (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=23148&subcategory_ID=1212) to be very cool, and you can always unzip.

This (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=23807&subcategory_ID=1212) looks nice, and the price is certainly right.

Wow, I love the idea of the shorts with white fabric where the sun hits. I'm interested in them, too, but I'm scared that they might be a little too revealing. My husband once tried on a pair of white bibs that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. Does anyone know if that's a problem with the Assos shorts?

I ordered two shirts from Perfomance today. We'll see if either one of them is what I'm looking for.

As far as the white fabric on Assos being too revealing; one of my Sunday group ride members (male) has worn all white Assos on at least one past occasion, and I haven't noticed anything through them that I shouldn't see, even after a pretty sweaty 50 mile ride. Granted I wasn't on the lookout either though.

When I get mine in I'll post about them after I go for a spin.

I love these screaming neon Brooks NightLife t-shirt jerseys:
http://www.holabirdsports.com/cgi-bin/product?product=051031
They are VERY lightweight and breezy and very COOL in the 90's temps.
I got several and I even just cut the sleeves right off of two of them! You don't even have to hem it as the material will not fray when cut. :p They look real "boss" with the sleeves cut off.
These things are very breezy and cool. No pockets. Great traffic safety color. Wash easily in the laundry. They run a bit large- I usually take a size medium shirt but in these the small fits me fine. They are on sale at the above link! Terry has them as well but at a higher regular price.

Oh, I also got their tank:
http://www.holabirdsports.com/otherviews/products/051193_1.jpg
http://www.holabirdsports.com/otherviews/products/051193_2.jpg
but Holabird only has it in small, so I went to Footlocker.com where they had it on sale too in all sizes. The tank has a big wide swath of yellow down the back for great visibility. It's a blinding yellow color in both tops.
The tank is great too, but is a heavier stretchy material (like a bathing suit) and has an inner shelf bra, so nood need for a sport bra underneath unless you are really big. These tanks run snugger than the breezy t's- I take a Large in the tanks and a small in the t's.

I like both of these tops in hot hot weather when biking.

I just read you don't want flowers, but maybe another with the material? It is really light and breathable!

One thing i'd like to point out is for very hot weather - try a good summer/heat baselayer by Craft, Giordana, Pearl. I know it sounds counter intuitive but they exist for a reason. They're made specifically to cool your body down.

Twice a week I ride out of where I work in North Jersey because of the mountains. These kinds of rides are ones where you're going 9 mph or 38 mph and very little in between. This season I started wearing a wicking baselayer during hot days and it really does work. Yes you obviously sweat but you never feel overly hot and I think that is the key to their existence. Geez, now I feel nake if I ever get on the bike without one!

I have the sleeveless Giordana for the hottest weather and I love it: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=BUY_PRODUCT_STANDARD&PRODUCT.ID=704&CATEGORY.ID=130&MODE=&TFC=

And for weather up to 75*F, I love the Craft short sleeve. I like this because the sleeves are slightly longer than jersey short sleeves so you can tuck them up or they anchor arm warmers very well if it's cooler outside: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=19836&subcategory_ID=1123

Try the Gore Bike Wear Xenon SS jersey (white, black, and fuschia sold on team estrogen, orange at Terry Bicycles). This jersey is very lightweight with small mesh panels on the sides and a large one on the back. I bought too and wear nothing else right now. I'd have 4 but I don't care for pink and black in the summer is just too hot). Very cool and comfortable on 90+ degree rides.

It's not strictly a 'jersey' but I'd reccommend the white or yellow Canari SPF shirts... VERY light cloth and if you're out or an extended period, the SPF factor may be an added bonus.

Exte Ondo stuff is generally of very high quality, I've found... it *looks* and *feels* very, very nice... but I don't actually own any to really comment... :p

The Louis Garneau carbon jersey claims to have superior temp management, and to look at it, it's very light, and mostly white... Carbon Ion? I think? I know TE carries it... just not sure of the name atm...

Personally, I'd slap on a TON of sunblock and go for a tri tank with a lot of mesh to it, then just make sure I'm drinking enough that the perspiration and mesh do their respective jobs... i *like* the sugoi tri tanks...

Thanks gals! I'm still in the market. I've had a few hold ups thus far.

> Trying to match the new hot weather shorts I have (white&black)
> Must have at leat two, preferrably three, pockets on the back for all the long ride stuff I haul around.
> Pro/snug fit
> I've got a running list of the jersey's I would love to try, but the size I need is either out of stock here at TE or the color I would like most isn't carried. Weary about ordering from a new place I haven't ordered from previously.

I've got 4 potentials coming in this week, so hopefully a couple of them will fit the bill!

speaking of those white and black shorts; on the recent Seattle to Portland ride i know of 3 different people who got heat rash right at the end of their shorts; their BLACK shorts. There was about a 3-4 hour of very hot sun at midday
and they really got burned!

Well, I'm cycling in the sweltering heat (high 90's) and I absolutely love Pearl Izumi Select jersey with the Ultra Sensor fabric. I have yet to find a better wicking fabric than this. And I also bought the Short Attack short made with the same fabric.

What keeps me suprisingly cool is sunscreen. I use the Bullfrog Marathon Mist with 36 spf spray and it really does keep me cooler. Don't know why but it works.

The Assos white cycling shorts are really cool looking. Have you tried any of their shorts? How's the chamois?

Just another vote for this jersey. I just ordered it, and although we don't have hot weather, I am going to take it to Shasta. It feels wonderful on, and fits great. It is very light weight and after I washed it, it was dry in NO time. That doesn't often happen up here in rainforest-land.

Thanks! Seems to be popular enough to try. Not sure on the sizing though. I see it's listed as 'semi-fitted'.. is that accurate or should I size down if I like more of a pro fit?

My husband bought the Sugoi jersey for me in the medium since he saw all of my other jerseys are mediums. Even with a generous bust I probably could wear a small. I didn't return it because I felt I was in between the small and medium. If you like more pro fit I would go down a size. The waist flares slightly and has no elastic, so down a size will probably give a slimmer fit.

My other favorite! The Sugoi jersey I mentioned is better in my opinion, but this one is a good wicking jersey.

I agree you should go down a size if you want a slim fit. I bought a large and was glad to see they were running big, because I've put on weight that is showing up in more thickness through my back, bust and waist. But, when I get back to my more normal size, there will be other large jerseys that still fit well, and this one will be too big, eventually.

I will say, though, that even though this one is running large, the armholes still provided enough coverage and so forth. There are no big gaping parts. It is still cut well over all. The extra roominess seems to be just sort of all over, not really sloppy over-sized anywhere in particular.

I just have to put another plug in for this jersey. I just ordered two from Terry (they're on sale and I ordered just in time to get free shipping too). Wore the white one for the first time today on a 45 mile, hilly, windy, 80 degree ride and it was as cool as a sleeveless jersey. The mesh is just SO lightweight. The cut is beautiful and flattering and has plenty of torso length (short jerseys are one of my pet peeves). And the pockets are roomy (my second biggest jersey pet peeve is small pockets).

If TE ever puts the pink one on sale :D I'm definitely getting it.

EO short-sleeved jerseys are now my favorite for hot & humid weather. The venting is perfect and the styling/quality/fabric is top notch. Luckily, I was able to find some at a relatively reasonable sale price, so now I'm hooked.

Before I tried out the EOs and was won over, I wore only the Terry Sun Goddess jerseys in the heat/humidity. I still like those ones and will rotate those w/my EOs.

Coming in late to the party here....

But I agree with Equus123 here.
I've become a base-layer convert this year. I use (a tad too often - I need to get a second one!) the Under Armour Heat Gear base layer. I got it at REI (http://www.rei.com/product/721069), but it's also at other (http://www.amazon.com/Under-Armour-Heat-Gear-Womens/dp/B000LHMNVQ)places. At first, I was hesitant to wear TWO layers on a hot day, but it does a great job at wicking sweat and keeping me comfy. And, as an added bonus, I have not had the acne issue I've had in season's past because of too much sweat on my skin for too long.

The Terry Breakaway sleeveless jersey has also been comfy for me on really hot rides.

Of course, when it gets TOO hot and sticky down here...I stay inside in the air conditioning!

but, but, but, if I wait until it cools off, that would be November. I'm currently lusting after the mesh jerseys I saw in the Terry catalogue.
Also lusting for an icicle...
