Crater Lake is probably the most beautiful ride I have ever done. It's challenging, 3600 feet of elevation gain in 33 miles. It is never flat! But is jaw droppingly gorgeous! As a bonus, 18 miles of it was still closed to motorized traffic.

Descending at 37 MPH ( we zoomed in on the GPS) on the closed section of road. Thom is riding beside me taking photos.

My neck and throat were still really sore from my tumble. That chin strap will do a number on your throat when rocks are trying to rip your helmet off your head!

Use this link to see more pics, since it is not on the homepage yet.

They were still doing winter clean up on the back section of the road. There was still quite a bit of snow up there and they had some mud slides.

That water is so blue it doesn't look real! Wow- how incredibly beautiful!!!
Were the downhills scary? I like going downhill, but am afraid that a length that long would have my brakes catching fire.
What a great view (although a quad buster).

The blue was just amazing. I kept taking off my glasses to see how much was from polarization. Not much!

The downhills weren't scary at all, not twisty and the really big ones were on the closed to autos section. You did have to keep an eye out for deer and rocks.

amazing photos!! how's your recovery going?? I often find I don't hurt immediately after a crash but do the days after (I didn't want to mention that when we were on the phone the day you crashed..... :p )

I'm okay. The tumble off the cliff left me sore for awhile. Hopefully the stitches will come out tomorrow.

That is gorgeous. We attempted to visit Crater Lake, but it was during a late running winter--it was snowing in April and we couldn't see ANYTHING. We wer so disappointed we headed south back into California.

WOW!! My parents drove their motorcycle around it a few years ago, and I remember my mom saying how gorgeous it was! I would love to ride it, but alas... I live in hill weenie-dom... :p

It's really not that bad, especially if you ride it in tourist mode. :p I think there are like 30 places to pull over as you go around the lake. You just pull into each one and enjoy the view.

Deanna, we went once in early June and the road was still closed. April is out of the question!

Hubby and I stayed at the lodge there years ago for our honeymoon and rode the road around the lake - what a wonderful memory!
