Specialized Ruby Comp

Hi. Just looking at a Specialized Ruby Comp and wondering if it is in my size range. If you ride one of these - how tall are you and what size Specialized do you ride??

I'm 5'4" and ride a Ruby Pro-52, which should have the same geometry as the Comp. The original set up left me with just a bit of lower back pain.

However, after scheduling a true fitting session which resulted in minor modifications just for me ( ie... a shorter stem, different saddle) no pain. Just pure riding pleasure. A spirited little sport machine.

When all is said and done, schedule a full fitting session with a qualified tech; the result is incomparable.

I'm also 5'4" and ride a 52 Ruby. Like crumpincommuter, I've replaced the saddle and had some things tweaked to get a comfortable fit, but those are things you expect to do with any bike.

Edited: I made a typo -- she's actually a 51 cm. I'm off to find more caffeine now.

I'm 5'5 1/2 and ride a 51cm Ruby Pro. I have a very short upper torso.

My previous bike was a Dolce Comp (same geometry as the Ruby but different frame material). I'm also 5'4" and I rode a 44 cm so it's definitely not just about height!

(Based on a recent pro fit on my current bike, I now know that I should have bought the 48 cm Dolce, but the guy who fit me back then didn't take flexibility into consideration).

Thanks for your responses. This bike is a 54 cm and I am a smidge shy of 5'8". It seems just about right for me although it looks smaller than my previous bike. I can't find a size recommendation chart anywhere on the Specialized site so responses help a great deal. This bike is a year old. The previous owner paid $2600 for it and it has some things that came with it like aerobars, cleats, bike bag, bottle cages, computer, bike tool, etc. The odometer read 240 miles total trip so I assume that is the number of miles on the bike.

I was able to snag the bike for a great deal.

I rode it for a bit yesterday but i am so tired and sore that it really didn't feel "good". Even walking didn't feel good yesterday - :( I took a nap for 1 1/2hrs today and still feel "overtrained" so I will give it another day before I can give this bike a serious ride. That is the problem with riding - I always want to ride but my body won't let me. If we could just agree with one another, that would be great.

I don't know if bike size changes with different brands, but I am 5'9 and ride a size 54 Cannondale. It has to do with your inseam, though, more than over all height. I believe my inseam is 32 in. You should have your bike professionally fitted for you to make sure you don't end up with unecessary back pain, etc.

I ride the Ruby Expert, one up from the comp. It's labeled a 54cm, but it's a WSD 54cm. The actual measurment is closer to 49cm. I've been looking at cyclocross bikes and I couldn't even stradle a "normal" 54cm, but a 49cm fits just about right. :D bikerHen

I use to think I was average height, but the more I shop for bikes the more I feel rather short and stumpy. :eek: I'm somewhere beween 5'5" and 5'6" but I have stumpy legs and a long torso. Hope that helps. :D bikerHen

BikerHen, that's EXACTLY how I feel! I always thought I was normal until I started looking at high-end bikes. I've discovered that being 5'6" with a 29in. inseam is not normal at all! I'm gonna just call myself "stumpy" from now on! :D

I'm about 5'7" and I ride a 54 Ruby Expert. It may be the same year as that one-dark blue w/gray. I went for a fitting recently and was told the cranks were too short. I don't think the lbs took into account how much I was planning to ride. Would you mind telling me what length cranks you have on yours? (it says on the inside near the bottom-I didn't know that) Thanks.

I am 5ft2, have a 29 inch inseam and short arms. I ride a 50cm Ruby Expert, although I did have to put a shorter stem on.
