So, I'm picking up my bike at the LBS today and I wanted to know what I should ask to have done when I pick it up. I have my own pedals and saddle that I'm going to put on the bike. Is it reasonable to ask for them to install the pedals and do a basic fitting (i.e. cleat alignment, proper seat and handlebar height)? If so, should I wear my shorts and all, or just bring the shoes?

Basic fitting is part of purchasing a bike. Take all your stuff, and I would wear a pair of shorts too.

Seems to me that if you're buying a bike from them, the least they could do is install your pedals and saddle. I'm not sure if it will cost extra labor, but it's probably a good idea to do that so you can make sure the height is correct.
Exciting! What kind of bike did you buy?

Thanks, I'll take my shorts and whatnot then.
I got a Scott Contessa CR1 Pro. I'm really excited about it, I could hardly sleep last night :D

Probalby too late to chime in, but what-the-heck...
They should do a proper fit for you with your pedals and saddle mounted on the bike. And since I'm late... in a week or so, or whenever you have some milage, and ANYTHING feels hinky, take the bike back to the shop (take your shoes and biking shorts) and ask to be refit. I know this because I have: pinched a nerve in my hand, strained my knees, given myself ITBS. Learn from my pain grasshopper.
And ENJOY your new bike!!!:)

Thanks! Sorry to hear about the pain. I got a bad fit on my last bike, so I understand where you are coming from.
They did a complete fit when I picked up the bike. It feels pretty good, but I'll know better when I ride awhile tomorrow. I'll definitely take it back to get refit if I feel anything.
