a 30 something coworker was leaving early. going to the Doctor.
he said "I wish my back didn't bother me so much"
I said, "have you tried doing yoga or anything like that for it?"
"well no;" he said, "I'm 75% disabled, it wouldn't be a good idea"
I said, " hmmm, what about core exercises"
he said "well, you know, I'm pretty fit"

what struck me was that even though he clearly hated having this bad back, there was NO WAY he was ever going to do anything about it because he's either too messed up or too healthy to need the help.

so off to the doc for more drugs.

d'oh.

But we have the same sort here -

"I wish I could lose weight"
me - do you exercise?
"no, it doesn't work. I've never been able to lose weight"
me - what about dieting?
"I hate dieting, it doesn't work"
me - have you ever exercised?
"I tried it a few times, it doesn't work. I would prefer diet pills, I shouldn't have to exercise just to lose weight"

makes you want to kick 'em sometimes.

"...I shouldn't have to exercise just to lose weight"

*sigh* As a fat person who exercises quite a bit, that makes me want to kick them pretty much all of them time.
