Jamis Quest review (kind of)

I have a new jamis quest wsd 2006. I just got it on Thursday and have been riding it 10-20 miles a day and so far it is great fun. It does not feel as buzzy on the road like my scott (I am guessing that is the steel part), and so far I have not had much wrist/elbow pain from riding it - I have the handlebars set up slightly higher than saddle. I also like that the quest has the ability to add a regular rack to it if I want to use it as my commute bike. I have spd pedals on it and my b17.

I also have a scott contessa speedster 2005 (or 2006 can't remember - I got it last early spring). I have never been able to get the fit on the scott to feel comfortable to me after the first few miles- and I have a bad right wrist and elbow that would start to ache at 5 or so miles and by the end of a longer ride, my wrist would just throb for hours - However the scott is la little lighter and it feels quicker - but I find the ride harsher on the road than the quest.

My big dilemma now is whether to sell the scott or take it to the shop known for fitting here in town (not the one I bought it from) and give fit one more try.

It sounds to me like you are really enjoying the quest and are comfortable on it, so unless you're really attached to the scott, sell it. The extra $ could be spent on accessories :D

My vote is take the Scott in for a fit. If the frame fits and minor adjustments and/or things like cushy bar tape, different stem could make it comfy AND fast....then the Jamis does double duty as winter trainer, touring, utility bike, back up bike when Scott's in the shop and or longer rides. :)

But if you can't make the Scott fit I'd sell.

Did someone here say "you're faster when you're more comfortable"?

Your post on the Quest is quite timely. I've been eyeing the Jamis Commuter but my focus is changing. Well OK, I've been bitten by the cycling bug and some one else recomended the Quest. I can't wait to take it for a spin and see what it is like. Most of my riding is commuting and it is just too hot here to have a pack on my back so a rack is a must for me.

I am amazed at how different the same size bike can feel so different. Both the scott and the jamis are 47cm. I like the scott feeling of fast - but the jamis feels better all around.

Coyote - you might also look at the bianchi imola - steel, rack ready, about same price as quest - I really liked it too (I apparently like steel) but could not fit correct in the final analysis (which is when lbs pointed me to the scott).

Thanks farrellcollie I check it out. I don't have my heart set on anyone bike yet, so it makes me like an open book. I can't wait to get to the end of the story. It will probably be a lot like the 3 Little Bears ;)

I agree with giving the Scott one more effort and then selling it if it isn't a cheap fix.

My S.O. has a 2002 Jamis Quest. It's a great bike. We both have Jamis mountain bikes. I have nothing but good things to say about their bikes (and their prices).

Way off topic... I must comment on your name and avatar... I have 2 collies, a tri smooth and a rough blue merle. They're wonderful dogs aren't they?

The jamis is really comfortable, but I will probably give the scott another try.

The collie in my avatar is my old rough girl princess dog- she is completely gray now but still rules- I got her when she was 6 weeks old and she is almost 12- I also have a 1yr old male collie mix. They are great dogs
