Hi all:
THought I'd give a race report- though it feel a bit more like confession...
shall I start now with the excuses or wait until after the report...
This was just a sprint.
My DH and I signed up early in may before:
a) I hyperextended my big toe sailing ( ouch ouch ouch)
b) busy family situation with my sister sick...
so to make a long list of excuses short I basically had a 5 week taper going into this tri- no swimming biking or running
Why would I do it??? well we had already paid for the tri 90.00 each and paid for a hotel so we though what the heck
what's the worse that can happen???
As I am racking my bike, the girl next to me says " Tam is that you???"
Turns out it was a girl I knew when I was 12-( I'm 43 now) we swam competitively against eachother- she was my only competition then!
OHH GOD ! I felt like I was 12 again- and I'm not trained!!!
As it turns out I had nothing to worry about- she won our age group and I ... well i was pulling up the rear:):D
The distances were 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run
My times 14.50 swim
bike 46.26
run 31.??
overall time 1.31.11

I really really need to cycle more ( well along with everything else) but I know even if I trained tons my swim would only get marginally better,
my run can improve for sure but I know even when I am trained running I'm not that fast- I could hope for a 25min 5km if I'm really trained
The bike... well I think that is where I can make some major improvements-
you can see, I am already trying to figure out where I can make up the time that the agegroup winner beat me by ( 20 minutes!!!!)

( and yes DH beat me too:( but only by 1.47):o
btw - I'm really not that competitive:):D :D

Pika! You made it 100% further than I can today! Congratulations!!

How do you feel? Sore, tired, relieved? And are we truly to believe that line about not being competitive? You sound like me! ha

You did well. DH may be able to brag it up this time, but there will be other races, and you will have your day against him, again!

Hugs and happy butterflies,
~T~

Yeah Pika!!!!! :) :) :) :)
Congrats on a GREAT race!!! Despite the fact that you hadn't trained in a while and you had an injury- your time is impressive. It's not that far off my time- and I train consistently. ;) Way to go on a great race!!!!!!!

I would've done the same as you- if I pay for it I'm going to do it no matter how underprepared I am (did a marathon in March I was NOT prepared for, but since the tickets/entry/hotel were bought I dragged my arse 26.2 miles to get that dang medal). :)

And yes, the bike is the area I could use the most improvement on, too. I think it's the easiest one to make up time with. And how cool that you were racked next to someone you knew 30 years ago??? Very cool!!!!

Again- congrats, and we look forward to hearing all about your next race (and that would be when???)

LBTC I don't feel too badly- it does make me feel like I would like actually to be trained before the next one:)
I never seem to actually try hard enough to suffer too much:D :D
Trigirl Thanks for the encouragement- Our original plan was to do 2 sprints ( june, july,) an olympic in August and a half in Sept ( Did I say that out loud???) That being said, we haven't actually signed up for anything else yet- I have to seriously look at what time I ahve for training and whether I can commit to it.
I was happy I went today but I'd really like to know how I could do if I actually trained 10hrs a week:)
I need to make a plan:):D

The first thing I have to say is
Woooooooooo Hoooooooooo!!

Second of all, you're race report was actually pretty short in comparison to some people I know......really well..........OK I confess, it's me.

So close to beating DH. Probably good that you didn't, wouldn't want to hurt his pride too much.

But way to go, that's a great finish.

The next bit, I'm throwing in because I love you and I don't want to see you take too much time away from other aspects of your life to train....stick with the sprints and one Oly. Don't worry about the half this year. You'll get super fit just doing the shorter stuff.

I'm so happy you did well. Take care and keep us posted.

Good going! Great time after a lag in your training.

Wow, that's a great finish, especially since you couldn't train for 5 weeks! I'm impressed you went out and still participated, way to go! :)
