I won a Trek hybrid 7100 WSD 20 inch bike. I am only 5 ft 5 1/2 inches tall with a 29 inch inseam. It is too big for me! I offered it to my sister who is about 5 ft. 7 1/2 to 8 inches tall with an inseam ??? Now I am not even sure it will fit her. Are any of you girls her height and ride a 20 inch hybrid? Will she be able to get on the seat and have her toes touch the ground? Please give me some guidance.

I am 5'7 1/2" with a 34 pants inseam and comfortably ride my 21" fuji hybrid. The cockpit is a little long for my shorter torso though. The wsd bike might be a great fit for your sister.

When I was bike shopping recently, I tried the Trek hybrids. I'm 5'7. The regular 20 inch (not WSD) fit me well - I have long arms and a long torso and felt a little hunched on the WSD. I'd imagine a 20 in. WSD would be a good fit for most regular gals. The 17.5" definitely felt too small.

For what that's worth!

But...if it's properly fitted, she wouldn't be able to touch the ground with both feet while on the seat. If the seat is that low, she'd end up with a lot of leg pain when actually riding. Or am I misreading you there?

I'm 5'8" and ride a 20 inch or 52cm or so frame.

Ditto on the seat-height and toes-on-the-ground.

I can touch the ground (just barely) with my toes while in the saddle, but that is because I have the saddle slightly low and shoved back to compensate for a bad knee. If I had the saddle adjusted "normally" there is no way I would be able to touch the ground while on the saddle. Generally, if you have the saddle set so you have only 10-15 degrees of knee flexion when your leg is straightest, you are in the ball park. (I get that because having my seat back farther puts me farther away from the pedal even though the seat is a smidge lower than text-book height for my inseam.) There are lots of other fine-tunings for saddle placement, and I would imagine she'd be able to get a 20 inch to fit pretty darn well!

Most folks prefer to get off the saddle and be weightbearing on one pedal (imagine using the pedal as a step) before they stop and need to touch the ground. Scooting around while off the saddle and using one pedal and the bars to control the bike is a pretty nifty bike handling exercise, too.

My Trek 7100 is a 17 1/2 and I'm 5'8" w/ 32"inseam and the 20 is too big for me. See if they'll compromise on the size- Congrats on your Win. :) Jenn

p.s. the seat height is where my toes barely touch the ground and it is comfy for me and I have balanced control of the bike :)

I'm 5' 5 1/2" and test rode some Treks last month. 16.5 -17 " frames were the right fit for me (29.5" inseam, shorter torso in my case). The models that let me touch the ground while still seated were cruisers like the Calypso, or the Pure series that have pedals forward. The other models, I could barely touch my toes to the ground. I think 20" is too large for you. Maybe you can trade for a smaller frame or if nothing else, sell it on Craig's list and get one that fits you.

I have a 17.5 inch 2003 Trek 7200 (not WSD). I am 5'8" tall, with a 31" inseam, and I think I'm on the correct size. My feet do not touch the ground when I'm on the saddle, but I'm sure it could be adjusted that way if you wanted to. I suspect the bike might be a bit big for her, but the only way to be sure is have her give it a try.
