Indiana State Police Lieutenant Gary Dudley and Lake County Sheriff's Department Special Deputy Gary Martin were killed on August 22, 2006 while participating in a charity bicycle ride to raise funds and awareness for the Indiana chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.

The Gary Dudley Memorial Foundation was subsequently established to award college scholarships to children of police officers killed in the line of duty in Indiana.

Gary's Ride will be held Saturday, August 11, 2007 in Plainfield, Indiana, starting at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. A recreational cycling tour through Hendricks County for riders of all ages and experience, there are a number of courses to choose from: up to 10 miles (family ride), 35 miles, 62 miles, 75 miles, and 100 miles. All proceeds will benefit the Gary Dudley Memorial Foundation.

Events for children to enjoy will include an obstacle course; large display of Police, Fire, and DNR equipment; and instructions on proper bike/helmet fitting, bike repair, and safety.
