Mum

She looked so tall
I was so small
The woman who was my Mum
I remember her smile
Her perfume, her hair
The woman who was my Mum

I remember her laugh
Her frown when I cried
Her worry when I was ill
When I fell over
She cuddled me better
The woman who was my Mum

When she cooked dinner
It made my mouth water
No-one could cook like my Mum
We impatiently sat waiting
When she did baking
No-one could bake like my Mum

A rebellious teenager
With tantrums and tears
And anger we argued and fought
But she always forgave me
Forgot all my cruel words
The woman who was my Mum

One day I was shocked
As I Iooked at my Mum
I was tall now and she seemed so small
The years had flown by
Lines etched on her face
The woman who was my Mum

Then she was old
So frail and spent
Each day was on borrowed time
Then one day it happened
She was gone, oh so fast
This woman who was my Mum

The speed of the years
Pass by far too quick
Already my children are grown
One day they will realise
That I have gone
The woman who was their Mum
