It was pretty good. It was a sprint distance, fairly flat course, some mild rollers and one short steep hill on the bike. My son (7) raced his first race here, he had a blast and is already asking when his next race is. I placed 3rd in my division, with a finish time of 1:34. I cramped up on the run, can't figure out why, but my run time was about about 6 minutes slower than my average. I cramped up after mile one, had to walk a bit. Felt fine, then at the 1.5 mile aid station, I sipped slowly, and walked until the end of the aid station. I immediately cramped up and had to walk a bit again. In spite of that, I had fun, my family camped with me and it was a pretty fun venue. I did place, this is the first year I have placed, and this is the second time this year. So, all in all, good race.

Congrats, Jen (and son, too :D ). How cool that you both raced together? Pretty neat to have a training partner so enthusiastic about it (kids are so great). Congrats on placing, too! 3rd is very impressive!!!! You should be very proud! Sounds like you had a very solid race, even with the cramping on the run. It's to hard to figure those things out sometimes- was it dehydration/overhydration/electrolyte depletion/pushing too hard on the bike?? Too many factors to consider. Hopefully you can figure it out for the next one. Cramping on the run is no fun for sure... :(

Congrats again on a great race!!! It's always good to get that first one out of the way.

Congratulations! That's great that you placed, and that your son raced too. That must be fun to do the same race together. :)

Yes, it was exciting doing the same race. I was so excited to watch him race, that I ran right through the finish line and down to the pool to catch his race. I didn't even check my time until after he finished. :D I was so proud of him. The last part of the bike was a hill, not a big one, but he had a heavy dirt bike, and he's only 7. He was trying so hard to speed up that hill, he had the grimace and everything. It choked me up.
Thank's for the kudos.

way to go Jen and your son as well. It's great that you placed in your division!!I love seeing the youngsters getting involved in athletic pursuits and what an awesome thing to train with your son and watch him finish his first race as well.I did a 32 mile ride last fall and there was a mother and son there. He was probably about your son's age and he rode the course on a BMX bike.I got to riding with a group of other cyclists and we were trying to figure out how many more pedal strokes he was making than we were.He chugged right along with his mom and when we finished we all waited to cheer him across the finish. Most impressive, as are you and your boy!!Again, congrats on a great race and a great day!!:)
