View Full Version : What to wear in Las Vegas?

I'm finally packing for the business part of my 2 week trip. It's a business unit "managers" meeting. Don't ask me how we can have about 60 managers in such a small business unit but we do. Anyway, the only instructions say "MEETING ATTIRE: Resort/Business Casual (bring comfortable footwear)." We're staying at the Marriott Resort, Spa and Golf. I did find out dinner is "on the strip" one evening.
How casual can I be for "on the strip? At 100 degrees, I'd be in my Sportif skorts and a Royal Robbins blouse normally. Will this be OK? I know that the evening acitivities last winter were such activities as pool at the sports bar and watching an NFL game. Yawwwn. Oh well.
How casual can I get away with for the evening of "dinner on the strip"? Do I need to wear a simple summer dress and flat sandals?
And, BTW, a curse on companies that start meetings at 8 am and then plan evening activites from 6-10 pm. How not to keep your employees healthy and happy? Run 'em into the ground. You know the sales staff will still expect me to keep up with their requests. Grouse, grouse, grouse.

Ohh geez that really depends on where you are eating. There are some pretty nice places on the strip where you really should "dress" for dinner... But then again most places you can get away with just about anything. I would bring a nice summer dress with some nice sandals (not the keens and running skort that I would normally wear ;) ). And be sure to bring a light sweater or jacket as places tend to go overboard with the AC. If you have a fancy sweater or jacket that you can carry that will help to dress things up, then that would be a good compromise. As for dressing during the day a nice light skirt or some nice capris should work. I would just go with a light skirt. And remember that in Vegas you will be walking a lot, not matter where you go so comfortable shoes are a must.
So when are you going to be in Moab?? The odd thing is *I* might be in Vegas sometime this week before we leave for Moab... We just may cross paths a couple of times! lol
Anyhoo... Have a safe trip and I hope to at least see ya'll in Moab.
Denise :)

I work in a casino and I am convinced must people never look in a mirror before they leave their homes. I think anything that fits and doesn't look like it belongs on someone half your age will do just fine. I do agree with runningmommy, bring a sweater. In the desert; casinos, theaters and grocery stores always seem overly cold.
In an effort to stave off boredom casino dealers stare into the casino and try to find the worst dress people. It is surprisingly easy to find badly dressed people but worst dressed usually takes some debate.

I leave for LV tomorrow morning and then fly to Mobe Thursday afternoon. All work and no play in LV though. Well, I suppose "they" would call it play but I don't call it play when I have to spend 14-16 hours with my co-workers in a mandatory activity.
Talk to Sue (yellow) about meeting in Mobe. I'd love to. With a 6 day mtb tour coming up, easy trails in Moab are fine with me so 1) I don't hurt myself and ruin the trip, or 2) be so tired I have a miserable time. We're riding from Telluride back to Moab so it'll be some long days and lots of climbing at high elevation. I do not want to kill myself before it even starts.
I think we'll do Klondike Bluffs on Friday but very early to beat the heat. Then hang out in the shade or do laundry or the A/C or whatever the rest of the day. Jump in the river?
Saturday - yellow and hubby will be there and we need to pick a trail and I don't know nuthin' at this point and have no time to research. You have an idea? Gemini Bridges used to be a blast until they cut off all the ledges for the trucks and newbie 4x4 idjits.
Sunday is the start of our tour.
Thank for the fashion ideas. I've got lots of linen shifts and sandals packed, plus my skorts and Keens.:) I've also have a Pashmina that I do not travel without. Co-workers laugh at it until they freezing also. Even the guys try to steal it.

I just had this dreadful thought. They still allow smoking in Nevada casinos?
Oh no. I'm going to be sick all week. Is it Thursday yet?

Yeah unf. smoking is STILL allowed in casinos. But they did tighten it up in non casino buildings/ restaurants..
And yeah, I'm sick as soon as I walk into those places! I love to sit on the roulette table and play with the numbers, but I HATE the smoke. it literally makes me sick to my stomach.
The last time I was there I wanted to play on a certain roulette table because it was hitting all my #'s, but there were two gross guys there smoking like a steel mill in Pennsylvania circa 1976!!! It was HORRIBLE!
Anyhoo, hope you make the best of it. And as I said, hope to see you next weekend.
Ciao!

May I recommend a leopard print halter top combined with a tight black miniskirt and 5 inch heels. It's Vegas, baby :D

SK is more of a tiger print, gal, I think. ;) She can't wear the heels, though; they'll mess up her calves for the big mountain bike adventure next week.

Oh, geez. Here I thought a white linen shift with silver border embroidery would be the tasteful thing to wear.
BORING!
I did wear hot pink sandals that matched my toes.;)

SK, I went to Vegas a couple of years ago with my company - a *prize* for being top sales - and I don't think *tasteful* is anywhere in the thought process of most people who go there! My company did the same thing - kept us up late for dinner *meetings* then our *training* started at 8 a.m., and lasted til 5! My co-worker and I had a couple of hours to sightsee on the Strip during one day, and discovered just how very important comfortable shoes are! As for the *what happens in Vegas...* thing... not always... :o

If you've got it flaunt it. You've earned 'em, show off those calves gal. Fishnet stockings, midriff blouse and really big big big hair :) :p
Since it's a business trip you'll need the Bluetooth that color coordinates with the outfit.
