how long do gloves last?

I started wearing the sugoi wahine gloves at the beginning of this season for a total of about 850 miles. (except the really cold days in early spring - I have full finger fox gloves) I noticed yesterday they have torn just below the fingers/above the palm and the hole is getting bigger.

I need new gloves - no biggie, but geeze, I feel like these are brand new :(

I'm going to get a pair of Pearl gloves from Title Nine and hopefully they will last longer.

Some brands/models wear out faster. I logged many, many miles wearing Castelli Donna gloves (probably got me thru at least 5K miles, possibly more). A pair of PI gloves (can't remember the model) lasted only a month, but the new PI gel-vents I bought this spring are much more durable. I like Hincapie gloves, too, as they are holding up well. They aren't as padded as the gel-vents, though.

I've noticed that different brands wear differently, too. My old PI gloves (Gel-lite) lasted through two seasons (~ 4K miles) but my new Cannondale gloves which I actually like better, are already showing abnormal wear after only 1K miles. I bought another pair of the Gel-lites, but either they changed the design, or my hands changed with the change in bike position, but I HATE them now. I just hope my Cannondale ones hold out until I find another brand/style that I like.

Perhaps maybe I'm only getting what I pay for and I should look into some of the higher end brands? :o

We paid at least 20 bucks for the gloves I wore out after 2 or 3 seasons.
How much is reasonable to expect to last a while?
I have other gloves (non-biking) that have lasted 20 years, usually the thing that goes wrong with gloves is that you lose them, not wear them out.
I've had the same pair of too thin leather garden gloves for over 10 years. I wish THEY'd wear out so I could get another pair.

I have a pair of Axo mountain bike gloves that I bought in 2001 and I still wear them. I love them! They are my favorite mountain biking gloves! I looked every where for a pair to replace them with but they don't make this particular brand any longer. They are holding up great for all the crashes and mud and sweat they've been through! Now for road riding I wear pearl izumi gel gloves. They usually last me one or two seasons. Usually the seam between the glove and padding separate or split. Actually this only happened to one pair. I just like new road riding gloves every year! :D But I will only ride my mountain bike with my Axos!!!! :p

I have gloves that are 6 years old. And I wash them after every ride.

I just learned they stopped making my favorite gloves - PI race lites. Now they have gel in them. I don't LIKE gel. :mad: I don't like a lot of padding. Okay, I don't like any padding.

How do you wash your gloves? Ours always bleed color (black stains from the leather/ette - yuck!)

I throw them in the washing machine and hang them to dry.

My first pair of PI Gel Lite Tour gloves lasted around 1200 miles. The wear on them was exactly like you described. It took me a while to find another pair, but I wanted the same ones since they don't have velcro straps, you just slide them on. Velcro straps are just one more thing to deal with and I'd rather just slip them on and go. These fit me perfectly ("like a glove" HA!), so I didn't feel like I needed the adjustability of velcro. They are $20, I figure not too expensive in the scheme of things. DH's are also some type of PI and he could not figure out what I was doing to wear mine out so fast, his have lasted around 3000 miles.

I have a pair of full fingered Specialized gloves (don't know the model) which have over 3,800 miles on them. I have changed numerous tires with them on and in general have treated them roughly. I just throw them in the washer and drier. The color hasn't even faded. The fingertips are just starting to wear through now. (I need full fingered gloves because I play the guitar and need to protect my fingers.) My DH has been through several pairs of PI's in the same amount of time. He just keeps buying them because he likes the fit (very large hands).

Susan126, I like the AXO gloves also! They fit better than Fox Mojave but I don't think Axo is making them any longer. They've both lasted a long time though. Geez, those were nice gloves. The padding on mine has finally bitten the dust and they're probably as old as yours. Bought them at Bicycle Jones in Klamath Falls.

MP, try the Assos sport glove like the pair the GP borrowed from Bill. This is the cheaper model of Assos. Yellow has a pair of Exte Ondo that are very similar, well-priced and the loop is more securely attaced. I've asked Joe to get in some for me to try.

Very thin, very even, no lumps, bumps, separations or weird seams.
