I decided to take the Giro out for a ride this morning. I've not really riden my recumbent since last fall. I've had her out for a couple of quick spins (less than 10 miles). Today's route was the same as yesterdays - flat with rolling hills. I felt pretty darn strong on my Giro though a lot slower, only averaged 14.64 mph today :( Since I left early the roads were pretty quiet and things were just starting to wake up as I passed by. The wind did pick up the last 5miles or so and of course it was a headwind:mad:

Bikes are parked in the garage and now it is time to get ready for the major home improvement week which awaits. My dad should be here shortly at which point we begin to work. I guess if I want to ride at all during the week I'll have to be up at the crack of dawn and on the road shortly after the sun breaks the horizon for my dad will want to start work as soon as the basement repair guys appear at my door each morning. So much to do, so little time - I'm already tired!

I had a nice recovery ride. Yesterdays hills really beat me up, but today the club did a nice fast jaunt in the farm country. Only 33 miles, but at least we finished before the sun was too high. It is starting to get hot in south texas.........

Did a pleasant 25 mile ride after breakfast with DH.
Thunderstorms threatened, but it only rained on us a medium amount part of the time- we got wet but not soaked. At least it was cool! We stopped at one point when it got dark and rainy so I could take off my now useless glasses, and I put a flashing blinkie on the back of DH's saddlbag. I had my neon safety yellow vest on, so I wasn't worried about being seen. We were glad to squeeze this ride in today because the forecast calls for HEAVY rain over the next 2-3 days.

Left at 7 a.m. for a 20.65 mile ride by myself as DH has to work today. Did a hill and got up it a little faster than last time.
75 degrees when I left and 87 upon my return. It heats up fast around here.

Yay! After three or four weeks of no riding, we did a 34 mile tandem ride that included Juanita Hill, first time we'd done this hill (long one) on the tandem. Hurray! And first ride with Quattros instead of Frogs. So far so good, except it'll take me a little while to get entry position automatic, since it's really different from where you start a Frog entry.

I rode over to St. Paul (7 miles) to watch the Capitol Crits. It was a beautiful course where you can see the whole thing from the Capitol steps, and yet there were only about 100 people watching the races. For a city with sooo many people who like to ride bikes, it was a sad turnout for a fun spectating event.

I witnessed a really nasty looking crash right in front of where I was sitting, when one of the cat 1/2 men crashed into a barrier and caused a bit of a pileup. I couldn't look, and the sound was horrific, but nobody had to leave in the ambulance, and I think the worst injury was a broken collarbone.

Then it cleared up a bit so I took the long way home, making it a total of about 30 miles.

I'm never trusting the forecast again. It called for rain all day yesterday and today, and both days I managed to get in a 30 mile ride without getting wet.

Picked up a new Felt Z65 yesterday, first ride today. Rode 30 miles w/ DH, two moderate climbs and finished w/ our fastest average speed so far this spring. Felt Great! No body pain minus the saddle area, could have kept going if my legs were in better shape. Now to resolve the saddle issue & keep on riding to get those legs & lungs in shape!

We lead a club ride today; only 4 people came. it was cool and cloudy, a welcome change from the past few days. One woman came in a sleeveless jersey, with no jacket. Pretty irresponsible, since rain was forecasted. She didn't realize you can get hypothermia at 60 degrees. I lead up to the lunch point. Of course there was one man who had overstated his qualifications and poor Steve had to do circles to stay behind him. But, all of the people were very nice. I was glad to see that I can climb better than all of them. We stopped at Longfellow's Wayside Inn and ate lunch on the grounds, watching all the people go in for a wedding or shower. I rode sweep on the way back, where we ran into grooved pavement, which I hate and then it started lightly raining about 3.5 miles from the end. The slow guy made it up a big climb pretty well, but then slowed to a crawl right near the end. At the last turn I told him i was going ahead, since it was another climb, and I made it back up this hill at my fastest speed ever.
Most of this ride is on roads that i first started riding on and near my old house. I really miss riding more frequently on these roads. Just being on them made me happy.

Well, I thought I'd join some friends on their usual Sunday social ride; as a kind of recovery ride from yesterday's hot 'n hilly adventure, and to meet up with some folks I haven't ridden with yet this year. We left downtown at 10am, it was already hot out, and the leader headed us straight for the hills! OMG...I thought I was going to die. But somehow, something kicked in (training? TITS? complete lack of common sense?) and the hills didn't seem as bad as I feared. Not much of a recovery ride for me, but a nice one anyway and nice to ride with this group again. Pleasant 50km scenic ride through the Highland/Prospect Lake/Central Saanich area NW of Victoria and back.

our weekly commute to church, 17 miles each way.
but DH is grounded, the doctor said No Road Bike, so we got him a recumbent and our ride takes a little more time but its a very nice, relaxed pace!
i ride his recumbent to work on saturdays because he doesnt work that day, and i took a different route home yesterday so decided to show him that route today.
its through papago park on the bike path and theres some very short-very steep sections i wanted him to experience. uphills are so hard on the recumbent!!
but i want him to be ready when he gets back on the road bike so i'm kinda pushing him. we probably did a couple extra miles on the circuitous route home.
good ride but very hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did a lovely 16.3 mile ride with Raleighdon: I'll call it the Magnolia mix.
We went up and down hills and had a lovely time. it felt hot; on the way home I noticed it was 71 degrees. (But it's 84 now, so I'm glad we rode in the morning!)

Went on a 23 mile club "ramble" through Mill Creek with dh today. The pace was listed as social/moderate, which usually just means moderate pace with regroups and a lot of jockying for position 'cos nobody wants to be behind the fat lady:rolleyes: (except for dddddh:) ). I managed to keep up for most of the ride, but was grateful for the "no drop" policy on the last couple of hills:o :o I was surprised to learn that there is more to mill creek than housing developments. There are actually farms and woodsy areas! who knew?! Hubby tells me we averaged 14mph, which is pretty good for me on rolling hills:D

Nice 23 mile ride...another beautiful day here in Northern CA.

I think I've reached a turning point here in the "Land Of Newbie-dom"...I'm really having a lot of FUN on my rides and I'm starting to notice the scenery more. Today I noticed a really neat old farmhouse that I've ridden past about 15 times now...I guess I'd never bothered to look anywhere else but straight down the road!

We set out for a 50 mile ride, carefully looking at the weather to judge temperature, radar and forecasted storms. At 18 miles I saw lightning, then heard thunder. Naturally the weatherman was about 8 hours behind on the forecasted storm arrival. These storms developed in the first hour we were out. We started to high tail it home and I flatted on the back tire. DH By then the thunder was close so we called my dad to come rescue us. DH did the fasted flat change I have ever seen him do and we kept riding away from the storm until my parents met us. We finished with 28.69 miles, got home 10 minutes before the storm hit our house.

First time using CO2 though and I am a convert!

Aggie I'm glad your hubby could make short order of the flat and you were strong enough to make it home before the storm. Lightning really gets the adrenaline rolling. I had a nice 29 mile ride. First sunny day we've had in a long time. The wind even went down for my last stretch of the ride.:D I saw 3 deer cross the road at 3 different places. Usually they are in a group together. Weather is still holding out for clouds and storms most the week. I'm going to try and forget the showers and ride anyway-unless storms are brewing.

My roommate Amie and I did a 25 mile ride started the Portola Valley loop, went up Old La Honda (one of the major classic climbs in the area), decended highway 84, and then completed the Portola loop. My climb up Old La Honda, ~ 3 miles with ~1200 ft. elevation gain, was OK, especially given that I had food poisoning Wed night to Thursday, and am just getting back to eating normally. Trying out a new saddle.... going to need some additional tweaking until I can make a decision, so we will see. All in all a good day, and a nice break from the dissertation!

I was able to get 30 miles in. It was warm (88) - I wish I had started earlier. Tried out a new saddle - Terry. I got a little numb in the tail after 20 miles. But I probably am not set right yet. But less chafing on the inner thighs is worth it!

Road Bike Boat Bike with my brother. We did the 50 mile course through the North Fork part of the Hamptons, took a ferry to Shelter Island, road the route around there, ferry back and road through the hamptons to the starting point.

The food was good at the rest stops, ride well organized and they even had wipes in the porta potties.:)
