I just have a happy little thing to report.

I work in an after school program for middle school kids, and one of them volunteered a couple weeks ago at an aid station on a charity ride that benefits the school. I was on the ride, and at her aid station, she told me she had once ridden 15 miles, and she asked me if I thought she could ever do the organized ride (it has 30, 60, and 110 mile options). I told her she sure could, and she gave me a dubious look.

Today, after the program, she asked me if I would give her some pointers on how to train for next year's ride. Of course, I was thrilled, and I will help her put together a training plan, and maybe do some riding with her.

It is just a lot of fun to see a pre-teen girl dare to consider a ride she sees as a big goal, and also really fun to see that she is willing to ask for help in pursuing her hopes and dreams.

Thanks for letting me share! I can almost hear yet another female's self esteem beginning to rise as a result of biking! ;)

Aw, man! What a great opportunity for both of you ! If she has a whole year she'll do that 30 easy.
Once you get that bug it never leaves and she'll have a lifetime to get better and better.

Thanks, guys! I didn't post to get a pat on the back...I am just so happy that there is going to be another young lady going into her teens learning about eating well to fuel her athletic pursuits, learning about how much confidence athletics can give her, etc. Biking has done SO much for me...I LOVE it when kids get involved. I am so proud of this girl for asking for help. :)
