View Full Version : I just won 2nd place...
... Should I feel happy? There were only two of us in the womans category, so practically I finished last :o , but it was so difficult that even some men have stopped the race after the first circle, and, at least, I finished (and I didn't even drove with mountain but traking bike and my tires were much thiner) . After 9,5 km the girl that finished first was 36 seconds better. Somehow I feel ashamed to tell the people I won silver medal. Even my sister laughed at me when I said that I had only one concurrent.
What do you think? Is it better to keep my mouth shout? Would you laughed?

You should be very proud! It sounds like a tough ride, and you did well!
Congratulations!
Holy - 36 seconds! That's a *race*! You did extremely well!
One time I came first in category at a race with only one competitor. When I tell people about it, nearly everyone says, well you shouldn't be telling people there was only one other person! <smile> In comparison, she was 27 minutes behind me. But she still came second. She finished, she raced, and that's what it's all about!
iFKA, be proud of yourself! You're a racer!
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~
You should be very, VERY proud of yourself.
As for the sister, well...
Does she race?
Tell the story with a smile and finish by saying
"I think I did quite well. I'm rather proud of myself"
Be proud of yourself, that's what matters.

Yes, you should feel happy. You were tough enough to come to the start line, ride a race that others were dropping out of (regardless of gender), and still finish very strong. Maybe if it were easier, more women would have showed up. ;) You earned that medal, wear it with pride.

You should be proud- you finished!! If you hadn't you would have gotten a DNF, not a medal. :)

YES! YES! YES!
I won second place out of three of us last year. I told EVERYONE!
Congrats
As other's have said. The hardest thing to do is get to the starting line. You're farther along than 99.99% of the population.
Anyone else notice that when you tell non-cyclists that you race, they all immediatly think you're super fast and are in awe of your super human skills.

Humility is good, but not when you sell yourself short. Savor the victory and hang the medal somewhere prominent;)
Next time your sister expresses an opinion...invite her to join the race next time.:p

Well done!
You started, you did your best, you finished, you won the medal.
End of story.Onward and upward!
You should be very, VERY proud of yourself.
As for the sister, well...
Does she race?
She doesn't even drive the bike, she just can't find the beauty in it, but so does everyone else. They all think I'm a freak for doing all that, but it doesn't matter.
I wanted to know what would you all, as bikers, think about story like that. I'm glad you support me :D Now I can proudly hand my medal in my living room
Thank you girls, you made my day much better ;)
You should be proud- you finished!! If you hadn't you would have gotten a DNF, not a medal. :)
What's a DNF?

You should be doggone proud! You got out there and did it, and no matter how many people competed you took second (and almost had first). To your sister I would say: bite me lazy bum! :p

36 seconds can seem like an age and can seem like nothing - but however it feels, it is not alot, and to finish with a 36 second time difference means that was definately a race to the end... and the end after all is what matters most.
Be proud of your medal.
:)
This saturday I have another MTB contest so I'll try to defend my silver medal ;) Eventhough, there are 25 girls already signed in so this time my goal is to be if not second, than al least at the first 10.
I'll let you know if I succeeded or not. Keep your fingers crossed :D

Good luck, iFKA.
There is an advertisement for Croatia tourism on tv ( Eurosport) and I think of you every time it's screened.

I wish more women entered mtb races! It's nice starting a race with only a handful of other people on the line instead of the big mob the blokes have to put up with, but it's so had to gauge your progress over the season when there's several minutes between you and your nearest competition either side.
Good luck iFKA! (I'm visiting Croatia for a week next month, actually. Poor bike has to stay home though - I'm doing a sailboat cruise.)

go go iFKA
I'm racing tomorrow too (its Friday night here)
Our forecast is for rain and cold southeasterlies... my 16year old and I want to go regardless of weather!
Trust you have better conditions and get looking forward to hearing about a top ten result as you want
Good luck, iFKA.

awsome!!! You'd have a great time, our sea is beautiful and the weather forecast for the next week is great :D I'd like to do sailboat oneday.
In which cities are you staying?
...about girls... there are 38 sign in so far (out of 322 competitors)... I have stage fright  I've never even seen more that 5 "bike-girls" together
I don't mind if I get last, I just want to finish it. It's 33km uphill , and altitude difference is 0m (start) to 1532m (finish line)

Its 8:17 saturday morning here... about 2' outside, but the sun looks to be showing his face over the edge of the hill... so maybe the rain will not arrive.
The road race is at 2pm today... no medals... this race is part of the Winter series my club (Road, not Mtn Biking) puts on, we race for points every Saturday and there are certificates at the end of each series (series are... Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn!)
I'll probably post about it later in my racing thread...
I guess with your race, a good point about it being warm is that you want be slooshing about in the mud. Best of luck for yours and hydrate well before, during and after!

Sounds like your weather is like ours.
Keep yourself hydrated, iFKA
I finished 9th :D
I was so happy... I didn't rush cause it was so hard to be quick in those conditions, I just wanted to finish the race. And I succeeded  The weather was unbearably HOT and I couldn't wait to finish so I could go swimmin' but than we didn't had the time cause we hurried to one concert back in our town. Unfortunately it started to rain and the concert was canceled.
But never mind, I finished! :D I finished! :D I finished 9th! :D And the whole time I was eating all energy bars and beans and drinks that my secret sisters sent me during this months. I kept it for special moment and it helped me a lot. :)

Well done, iFKA
You are a champion!
You did it!
Yeah, I ate the last of my energy bars (Raw Food chocolate and raspberry) from a Secret Sister yesterday. It is so amazing when they send us this stuff that we can only read about on the forum in our part of the world, isn't it.

Um... Start and finish in Split. Overnights in Makarska, Korcula, Vis and Hvar. I guess we'll see a few other places along the way too.
Well done on your 9th place finish!

Split I don't like so much because it's a big city and everything is crowded and noisy and the people there are to impulsive for my taste. But I like their main beach, it's great for playing with little ball (they call it picigin) it has perhaps 100m of sand, and the watter level is not even till your knee :) other places you'll visit are GREAT... so small and romantic. It's too bad that you wouldn't have your bike, you could see much more.
I hope you'll have a great time, and please tell me how did you like my country when you came back. I'm very interested how other people see it.
bon voyage :)
