At our first group ride Saturday, My husband made the observation that everyone was wearing lycra shorts, and he rather wants to, too... especially for the padding. I've kind of been discouraging it because the other shorts he has ...welll.... don't hide much. :o he's rather well endowed and I don't know how to tell him he "probably shouldn't wear those kinda shorts without something over them"... can anyone suggest the ideal mtn biking shorts to go over those lycra, padded biking shorts?

I mean... as much as I like the show, I don't think others on the trail would appreciate it in quite the way I do... :D

I've seen biking underwear, don 't know the name of it. It is underwear that is padded like biking shorts, then you wear whatever pair of shorts you like over them. I think they go for like $20 on up.

You can also get "baggies" that are baggy shorts over tight shorts with a chamois.

But jeez -- are you sure you aren't overreacting just a wee bit? You can't see anyone's crotch unless they're off the bike, anyway. I doubt people are staring at your man's crotch -- more likely, they're too busy being self-conscious about the clothes they're in, or maybe even too busy riding their bikes!

Heee heee! My hunny is um, blessed too and I say enjoy the show! No one cares, honestly. I thought it was hotter than hades the first morning he was getting up for an early ride and I saw him strolling about the bedroom in his black drawers!

It's actually not *that* obvious. I mean think about it, 98% of men's bike shorts are black. Why do gals wear black? Cuz it's slimming and it hides stuff!

Most mountain bike guys are pretty casual about the whole thing, just like your average competitive swimmer. I say this, because after taking hunny's son to two races and seeing guys drop their drawers and put their shorts on I've gathered they aren't too worried about who sees what! They're too worried about their ride.

Heck, at the last race I did my best to look away for one young stud who warned me, but how dumb do you look intentionally staring the other direction. Well, I kinda acidentally got an eyefull and YIKES! By the time he was completely geared up though, I couldn't tell him from his similarly clothed Giant *giggle* sponsored buddies.

So if it really stresses you, get him some baggies, but honestly, unless you're swinging by the grocery store on the way home, no one will notice because his "business" will be in the saddle.

Every guy has one, and every woman has two, and I think everyone at least glances at everyone else with or without being conscious of it or needing to jump thier bones... AKA, no big deal.

He laughted at my posting it, though he does think the padded underwear look like they'd be nice. Usu. he's kind of modest but told me yesterday "For you, I'd bike in a speedo" Woo! I suppose I took his modesty for granted. Now I can't even look at bike shorts without getting another wisecrack. Goes to show you, don't try to fix what isn't broken and don't try to cover what someone might be proud of. ;)

Hahahahahahahah!!! my husband never gave me the opportunity to wonder if his shorts were revealing...after a long ride he walked up to my and told me his ummm well you know...they ached! he's been a lifeguard all his life and is not modest...if it doesn't bother him it doesn't bother me :) Personally I think everyone on our ride was too busy adjusting tight fitting jerseys over spare tires (my donut included :)

Oh great! Now, I am going to have something else to check out! LOL

I just told my hubby last night, that I can't take guys wearing a Speedo seriously...I can't stop looking at the one area *ahem*. I think it stems though from watching Michael Phelps swim so much in the Olympics...it's much more pleasing to look at him or those with a similar build because they can actually wear the Speedos LOL.

I think of myself as more of a butt-checker-out-er though...I think guys butts look so good in bike shorts LOL...

O.k., now I am going to behave and get out this energy by riding! LOL

Huggles,

Lisa

Anyone else notice that colored bike shorts seem to, ahem, leave less to the imagination than plain black?

Is it because most colored lycra is thinner? Or is just a visual trick???

More research is obviously needed......

I have noticed that too regarding the colored lycra shorts...oh bother, yet another thing for me to check out...LOL.

I'll research it this weekend when the pros come to town to race ;)

Giggles,

Lisa

I really need help with my "sexist" ways!!! :) LOL

Oh- white bike shorts are the worst!!
During the Tour I just wanted to scream...no white shorts! They should be outlawed !Especially in the rain.

During the Olympics I noticed a lot of the runners had lycra shorts as well- and again, the coloured shorts seemed to be much more revealing than the black shorts. Unless those guys were...well- you know!

Anyway, my humble, professional artist inspired explanation is the reflection of light...
in other words, the colour of black shorts is denser, and doesn't allow for the reflection of light waves off the material the same way lighter colours do...

hence... WHITE SHORTS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!!!!

My favorite line from Le Tour's Team time trial:

15:21 CEST
FDJeux.com sets off in the pouring rain in their nearly all-white skinsuits. Oh dear. :o
