Bike Against the Odds 2007

Just wanted to make sure that registration is open for Bike Against the Odds 2007 on Sunday, Sept. 16th!

For those that haven't done this before, it's a challeging ride in the East Bay which benefits the Breast Cancer Fund - an org that focuses on identifying and preventing environmental causes of cancer. Routes range from 30 to 100 miles - all with hills ... the century has 10,000 feet of climbing! But the routes are just gorgeous through the East Bay hills. My cycling club, the Oakland Yellowjackets, are co-organizers and I've been on the committee since our first ride - hmmm 5 years ago, I think! So, past riders, please let me know if you have any suggestions I can pass along. The routes are much the same as last year except no rock slide detours (I hope) and we've gotten rid of the 12 mile ride.

Love this ride.

Those of you in the area this is a great ride, tasty organic food, great crew, registration is well run and it's crazy hard. So if you're looking for a challenge on that last organized ride of the year, here it is.

Only thing I could say is more more more more more signage. Spray paint, signs, balloons, flares, I don't care, just mark the route more.

The ride is limited to about 900 riders and they are spread over 4 routes. So it's not a zoo.

It's a small very challenging well supported ride :) :D If you're a back of the pack person like myself the farther I go ..... the more often there is nobody around.

Each time I go the route is better marked and I got lost at least once each time :( maybe that's me.

I know that in the past there has been a series of training rides for this. Often they begin in the East Bay before BART opens so I've not been able to do them.

Given the hills on this ride, I'd love to do it, to prepare for what it looks like is gonna be a killer first day of the ALC, given this years route. Is there any chance of training rides for those of us here in San Francisco who don't drive?

I was looking at the route descriptions (http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=2831879) & there's a small error in the Advanced/Intermediate route:

"Turn left on Moraga Road, which turns into Camino Pablo when the road crosses under highway 24."

That should actually be Moraga Way, not Moraga Road.

Is there any chance of training rides for those of us here in San Francisco who don't drive?

The lunachix training rides start in July. We'll start at 20 miles and work our way up to about 80. More info to come. We'll be training all over the bay area: east bay, south bay, Peninusula, SF, Marin.
