ride jerseys?

do you ladies order/buy the special jerseys for rides? i.e. the tour de palm springs has a jersey.. but it's a men's jersey...

we normally get them for hubby... but since i plan to do it next year... i was thinking i'd like to have the jersey too.. but it's a men's :(

I have bought a few, but it really isn't my thing to wear jerseys with "stuff" printed all over them. I bought one from the first 24-hour race I did because it was special to me. They're usually pretty expensive considering that I don't get much use out of them. It just isn't my style to wear stuff like that. You're right about the sizing. Most of the time they are men's sizes and they don't fit. If I really want a souvenir, I usually buy a T-shirt.

The cost and the overdone graphics usually turn me away as well. If they offer socks, I'll go for those anyday.

I don't get the jerseys because I don't really like the material that they're usually made from. Also summers I prefer to wear sleeveless, and winters are for wool. :p

I sometimes get the jerseys, if I like them and can find something that will fit. All my event jerseys seem to be made by Voler, which I think makes wonderful jerseys, with excellent material and construction. Fortunately my favorite event ride has women's jerseys available -- you might have to experiment to see if any of the men's sizes will fit OK.

I like the idea of getting an event jersey -- they often have a cool design, they're not covered with the manufacturer's logo, they commemorate the event, they're relatively unique, and they're conversation starters.

I like all of my Sierra Century jerseys -- I have 4. I sometimes wonder if wearing a four year old jersey is weird -- but a few weeks ago while wearing my 2001 jersey I met a guy wearing one too -- see it's a conversation starter! -- and saw several other cyclists with the same jersey later in the day.

I think last year's Palm Springs jersey is pretty. Makes me want to do the ride just to get the jersey.

I do ask people about the ride if I see them wearing the jersey. It is a good conversation starter. Four of them! You could start a collection!

Talk about coincidence - my bf was clearing out his wardrobe today and we were both admiring his grand total of 10 event jersey's!

They range from one he got for doing a local century ride to those he got doing Gran Fondo sportif rides in Italy.

( Gran Fondo's : fantastically organised races in Italy - usually around 130 miles and often up mountains. Normally at least 1000 entrants ranging from semi-pro's to decent club riders. They're such good fun. :) )

The Italian jersey's are especially cool as they tend to be snazzy designs. The fondo's are normally run each year and you tend to get a different jersey design for each year. Also,not many English people do these things so it's nice to have something a bit unique.

On saying that, he rarely wears them! We both tend to train/ride in our club kit so his event jersey's are all in very good condition.

Still, it's nice to have a jersey to commerate the event. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt etc.

Socks sounds like a cool idea... :cool:

Oh yeah, event socks are the way to go, if they are available. Who can have too many DeFeet, Lin, Sock Guy, etc socks???

I also like the Voler jerseys. Don't shy away just because they are labled "mens". If you are small the Voler XS fits really well (nice short waist!), but the penalty is really small pockets.

When I got home from clinicals my HHH 100 jersey was in. It is the first time I've ever bought a ride jersey and probably can't afford it every time. I splurged and got the jersey, shorts, and socks. I'm glad though as the shorts are way better than anything I've got. I also got Ben a set.

Also, I think we will be doing some of the small local rides just for the t-shirts you get if you register in time. I need a bumper sticker that says, "Will ride for a t-shirt"

The Voler jerseys have what can best be described as "loose elastic". It's stretchy, but it doesn't have that "runched" (is that a sewing term?) look that other jerseys seem to have.

I'm so short-waisted that all jerseys tend to ride up and buch around my middle. I've given up on "flattering". Just give me three deep pcokets and a loooong zipper and I am a happy camper.:p

Normally no, I waffled about getting the AIDS ride jersey, on day 3 I bonked and thought "I don't deserve it, I didn't do every mile". Then I felt fine on 4, 5 and 6 and began to feel like I deserved one. By then I:

1) had no room in the luggage, yep, not even for another jersey.
2) they were out.

so I have the highly prestigious helmet sticker, and a patch....but if I go again I will pack one less jersey than I need.

I also like Chico Velo Wildflower but don't have one:p

I too find that men's or supposedly "unisex" jerseys don't work for me. Although I have long arms for my height, I have a shortish torso so they fit oddly. Particularly when I stuff the back pockets!!!!!

I saw one of those Primal Wear Thunderbird jerseys- I just loved it- so I am ordering one.

But- I've tried wearing a "real" cycling jersey in the past and I found it bunched up around my middle. So the question is- do I need a bigger one? It seemd to fit okay-
or is that what they do?

Since I'm still a bit chunky- okay a lot chunky-
I wear the man's or unisex jersey. I hate shortsleeves -it just doesn't go for me- I've got big arms and shoulders and it just feels uncomfortable to wear- not because of the fit but because of me I guess...and the ladies XL jerseys just don't fit. Period. Too small.

I've tried the Zoic Libertee flat seamed cycling shirts- they are totally wonderful- the same size jersey as the one I had that bunched up too- but the Libertee fits great- like a tee shirt, but still wicks sweat and is comfy. The drawback is that it doesn't have the back pockets. Which is really okay because I wear a camelback most of the time....
I have 4 of them- dark colours were all I could get,so they aren't too good in extremely sunny weather- but the comfort outweighs that! And we haven't had the incredible intense hot and humid weather this year, yet.

But I totally fell in love with that Thunderbird jersey.
Gotta have it!
I'm gonna get a bigger size though- I don't mind if it's looser- I'm gonna be mountain biking anyway...
