"It never gets easier; you just go faster."
A racer gave me this quote a few months ago; I didn't recognize the name of the guy she said she was quoting.
A search today turns up the quote as being attributed to both the infamous LA and Greg LeMond.
Any cycling buffs know for sure who *actually* said it? The number of hits seems to favor Mr. Greg.

I have a friend who has a similar philosophy. He's a really fast racer and I asked him how I could get faster. He said that the key is to not give up and don't get slower. (So I guess if I continue to race until I'm in my 80's, I'll be winning!).:D

I've been doing a bit of searching and it seems to have definitely been Greg Lemond who said it.

My personal philosophy for getting faster is from Eddie Merckx.
"Don't buy upgrades. Ride up grades."

V, that conflicts directly with my LBS philosophy "why train? buy speed"
Just kidding ;-)
that brings to mind a question, those of us who have signatures, why'd you choose 'em? Me first I guess, it was a quote from L.A. that repeated indeffinately in my mind got me up some hard hills.

From those who know:
"if you brake, you don't win."
-Mario Cipollini
"Ride lots."
-Eddy Merckx

I saw this on the back of a tshirt at the world road champs in Hamilton last year.
"if you aren't training, you are probably being passed by someone who is."

I steal most of my quotes from you guys. Seriously. This is the best board for cute, inventive quotes.

Mine just came to me because it's what I do trying to keep up with DH at times.:D

I read it in the sports section one day during the TdF and it cracked me up. Now everytime I leave the house to ride I think: "It's time to commit cycling."

I always thought you got that from some city council or TransAlt meeting.

I occasionally have to attend City Council meetings for work, but alas, cycling is not the topic!

I chose my signature line "Ride Like A Girl" after a week-end spent with DH's nephew and his family which includes their adorable 5-year son and daughter who is 18 months ... the 'niece-in-law's' mother and grandmother came for the day and was doting on the 5-year old asking him if he had been practicing his spitting like Grandma taught him ... or was he still spitting 'like a girl.' Just when I thought maybe I was taking that too personal she came back with another comment about his 'acting like a girl'. Well now this was really getting to me. Geez .. and this from a woman who is just a few years older than I am and didn't she stop to think about what kind of message that sends to the grandson about how to treat his sister and women in general?? Later that day 5-year old wants to show me how well he can ride his bike ... after he straps on his helmet and climbs on his bike with those adorable training wheels he is maneuvering around the driveway with everyone watching from the deck.
As he climbs off his bike and with everyone one applauding I told him what a great job he did and that before long he and I will be riding metric centuries together ... "Give me a high five - you are awesome - in fact .. you ride like a girl."
