Last year I had super short hair, so it wasn't an issue. This year it's longer - but nowhere close to making a ponytail. It makes the sweat run right down my neck into my jersey. What do you do to keep your hair out of your face or off your neck? The helmet's a given-no need to ask. ;)

I use a buff and I love it. I don't even feel it when it's on, I get no hair or sweat in my face, it doesn't interfere with the helmet, I don't need to bother working a ponytail out and when I take it off I throw it in the wash with my cycle clothes. I have 3, I really need more because I've gotten into the habit of wearing them even when I'm not riding.

I personally love the original "how to wear" video - something about it makes me smile

I own 5 (I think), it's as bad as my sock illness. Wear them in the summer for sweat management and in the winter to keep my ears warm. Carry one in each of my bikes for emergencies. I've actually had buff emergencies!

Love my AV buffs. Since I got them, I have worn one on every ride. No more "helmet hair" or sweat in face, etc.

I wear a skull cap under my helmet. A nicer one has a sweat band sewn in so that sweat doesn't run down your glasses or into your eye. Also the cap keeps the hair under control.
And sometimes, I use a bandana as a poor man's substitute.

I have long enough hair that I can get the bottom into a small ponytail, but there is alot that won't reach. For that I use the Goody's sports headbands that are flat. You can get them at any drugstore, WalMart, etc. They have little rubber grippies all over them, so they stay in place. With that on and then my helmet, I don't have a problem with the hair coming outside of the helmet.

I just use one of those Goodys-like elastic headbands. You can get like a pack of 3 at your local retailer for pretty cheap. I do have to tuck my hair behind my ears under the helmet otherwise I just look plain silly but the headband does a great job of keeping the hair out of my face.

I tend to use a buff under my helmet. It wicks sweat and keeps my hair from looking really goofy - it'll poof through the helmet holes and hang down in my face. I can pull it down over my ears if it's cold and if it's really cold, I can use another one around my neck. It's a fantastic invention :D

Nothing keeps this hair under control.

No more helmet hair, yeah, but MAN, does my hair look horrible when I take off the buff!
Which is why you need a versatile buff in stylin' fun colors that you keep ON even after the ride when hangin' in the shop, the parking lot, or wherever you happen to meet folks, if that's where your ride brings you.
When all my buffs are in the laundry, I opt for a do-rag.

Wow Zen! Wow!
I use a buff, too - a mighty pretty one at that. It's odd how this thing is great is hot weather and great in cold weather. How does that work exactly? I wear it at work (under the bee veil), working at my computer when my bangs drive me crazy, to wick sweat when putting up a fence, and, oh yeah - on the bike ;)

Zen! I betcha your hair goes wispy through the helmet holes! Mine might do that if I allowed it but I attempt Strict Control at all Times.
I don't know how the buff does it. It keeps my head/neck warm when it's cold out and yet when it's warm or hot, I don't get too hot with it on. I haven't noticed that postride buff hair is any worse than generic postride hair but perhaps I'll experiment.

Another buff convert here. My hair's just long enough to get in a little ponytail, but the buff contains the loose stuff and really does keep sweat and salt out of my eyes. In cold weather I wear it like a balaclava. It's thin enough to breathe through but keeps my face warm and, more important b/c I'm asthmatic, warms the air I breathe in so I don't cough as much. I don't know how I lived without 'em.

They have tons of patterns and thicknesses. You'll need one in high SPF, one that's for cold weather, one that's just plain cute....
Yeah. It's hard to stop!

Can you buy buffs in stores such as EMS / REI or is it an online order only?

REI has them in the summer, but doesn't stock them in the winter. Was at my local REI today, they had several to choose from. I resisted.

Buff sources: Sahalie, REI, and Terry. For the best variety of styles/patterns, order directly from Buff-USA.

I just ordered 2 from Buff-USA. One high UV & another "regular" one.....now if they'd just get here! :)

Thanks for the ideas - I have a ton of elastic headbands laying around from my sporty daughters - but I watched the buff videos, and those things are just plain cool!

Those videos had me convinced. I just ordered three! One summer one and one winter one for me and a winter one for BF......I hate having to wait for things to arrive though.

So after reading this thread, I went to REI today (they are having a great sale!). In addition to other goodies, I picked up a buff. I tested it out while working on my gardens - I'm in love! It keeps the sweat off my face (why do I sweat so much on my head?), and I think I look kinda cool in it! Thanks so much! You guys rock! I will give a go under my helmet tomorrow!
