View Full Version : The look of woemen's jerseys

Am I the only one that doesn't particularly like the look of most women's jerseys? I'm also getting tired of the basic solid color with a black accent piece along the sides or shoulder. I love the look of the pro team jerseys. They are so colorful and interesting to look at with all the sponsor names etc. But I would never wear one - the whole poser factor. But I wouldn't care if someone else wore one so don't flame me, okay? :) Not into the cartoon character jerseys either. Seems like a lot of the women's jerseys are too....girly....for me. I'm more of the sporty type of girl than high fashion. I like the jersey at the top of this page...different, sporty, no flowers. So, does your club have a cool jersey or did you get a really cool jersey from a tour somewhere? Anyone have any links to cool jerseys?
Edit: Oops. Sorry about the typo on the thread title. Someone please fix that for me so I don't look like a TOTAL idiot.

My fav to wear at the moment are the Shebeest leopard print (blue and gold) jerseys. I have a ss of the blue, and sleeveless version of blue and gold. LOL.. I wear it and it reminds me to attack hills like meat to ..well.. a leopard! LOL GRRRR.
I know what you mean though about all the boring stuff for women out there... You're not the only one!

You're not a poser if you wear a pro team jersey and I agree some are very pretty (the jersey - not that guy): This is Francaise des jeux.

I really want the Rosie the Riveter jersey....
I know what you mean, and if you are a "plus size" rider then your options are even MORE limited. Although I do like the TE MT Borah Jersey I bought. I also bought a really nice one from Nike at the LBS last night. It was funny though, they had a U.S. Air Force one and I tried to get DH to get it and he looked at me like I was insane. Then he said why, they aren't paying me to wear it.....ahhh good point.

Sadly, I've found the brands I like based on looks, are a lot more expensive. I really like the looks of etxe ondo products and some of the assos, but they're super expensive. I'm sure they're highly engineered and justify the increase in cost, but DH just wouldn't allow me to get it!
I agree with you though, I'm tired of cartoony jerseys and solids with black or white accents.

I love this jersey in the orange and black print. I've been wearing it about 2-3 weeks now, not continously though.

Soon I'll be riding in the club clothing and you sorta got to agree with using them the whole season round, even during training (there is even a clubclothing rule book). On the other hand it also costs very cheap (due to the sponsors on it) for high quality stuff. So no more choice for me ;)

Nope, not the only one. I do not wish to look like a gaudy American tourist or a couch from some doctor's waiting room, nor do I want to feel I'm going to be chased about by hungry bees. I just want a nice brightly colored jersey with a little zing to it. Like my old Yeti and LBS jerseys but in women's cuts.
Though I'm not big on character jerseys I could be persuaded to wear this amongst friends to egg them on when (ok, if) I pass them. :D
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y141/smcr/cartmanjersey_1.jpg
Except the part where my 3 year old can read now.......and is my stoker.
The TE available bright red Wild Things and red Curious George are agreeable enough.......and not my size.
I don't want to be adorable, I want to be seen.

Maybe I'm just paranoid and maybe it's so completely obvious to motorists, but I try not to draw attention to the fact I'm a woman when I'm out there, but most especially when I'm alone.

I'd be happy to wear a team jersey if I was actually on a team. Otherwise, they're not for me. Most of my jerseys fall into the category of those that you're tired off, li10up. I'm kind of tired of them too, but I prefer them over something that's wild and crazy or really "girly" (for instance, I'm not really into the Sheila Moon floral stuff). I wish there were more jerseys with interesting prints that weren't too over-the-top.
I bought a couple of Terry "Euro" sleeveless jerseys recently that I get tons of compliments on. If you like sleeveless, you'll find them to be very figure flattering. They're also great on hot days.

Speaking of jerseys, I just saw an Assos jersey for men featured in Bicycling Magazine that costs $230! Yikes!

Mimosa, I LOVE the idea of a non US team jersey. I like the one in the pic. I like your team jersey too.
Indy, I just ordered two jerseys from Terry. One sleeveless and the white/black/yellow with the shallow v-neck. I like the colors but it is a bit binding even though it is my size.
Mini, I am a hill slug but that's still kind of a cartoon jersey - funny but not my style.
Jenn, I like that one too.

it's amazing how much easier life gets when you get to that point ;)
I only wear sleeveless (mostly Terry) now (unless it's cold of course) because I hate the farmer/golfer's tan that short sleeves leave me with. Right now I'm eyeing the orange Cannondale Y Not jersey on sale at REI.

I liked it and wanted to buy it. Showed it to my house mate who promptly shot it down. I like some of the designs from Primal wear. My current fav is the dragon fly on the bike.
Another one is from a ride El Canejo ride. (the jack rabbit). On the front is the wild rabbit riding toward you. And on the back is the same bunny riding away from you. And why is it that the writing is on the inside of the pocket and not on the outside. Had a cute saying "Eat my Cotton tail" but you can't see it. grr!!!

Trekhawk, that Anaerobia jersey is very slick.
I also love my AV jersey. In fact, on my last club ride, I got a compliment on it from the guy leading the ride. He said "you win the prize for best jersey." I do think it's very striking with the red and green.
Mostly I try to wear my Velo Bella jersey, just to get it out there so people see it and maybe think about joining our team. Interestingly, I get more waves from other cyclists when I'm wearing my Velo Bella jersey. I think local clubs tend to acknowledge each other more than they do other random riders. Just my crazy theory.
Voler (Velo Wear) has some good jerseys for women, and they're cut very nicely, too. They seem to change their styles a lot, and have good sales, so it pays to check the site periodically.

Haa haa Pooks! I hear ya!! This thread kinda proves we are all individuals with our own taste! Good!!
Some I wouldn't be seen dead in  I did hear a very funny comment when it was announced that Lotto was going to be sponsored by predictor...'shouldn't the jersey be white with two red stripes?' :p I've met Robbie McEwen in his predictor jersey and he wears it well (surprised how 'compact' he is though)
I wouldn't wear a pro team jersey either. Currently have two Body Torque tops, one is pink and white and the other 2 blues (yeah I love that blue kit someone posted a pic of) They are female specific, which means bit wider on the hips, no elastic in the sleeves or around the bottom of it. Good idea!

Pooks - team jerseys = Nascar ohhhhh that hurts! I tend to agree, though...
I have one team jersey - from my son's cycling team - and I proudly wear it, though I would not wear a jersey from any other team. I also have a couple jerseys from centuries I have participated in. They do have sponsors on them, but I am proud to wear them because to me they are a sign of an accomplishment.

I used to wear whatever I could find...especially jerseys that were semi-girlie, but not too much. Now, I just pull out the team kit every time I get on the bike. It drives my DH (who doesn't ride normally) crazy when he goes with me on my active recovery days and I put the kit on! :)

http://f7.yahoofs.com/users/3Ro.N7qE5yUE/__sr_/cc49.jpg?tkn=ph8T1OGB.8D3IZIB&saveas=ME!
I have my own club's jersey (http://www.chickscyclingclub.com/) and I'm very happy to wear our sponsors' logos because they're all very very nice to us. (I just with the bike shop's logo was bigger - these guys are awesome.)
I also like to wear other women's clubs/teams jerseys. I love my VeloBella's jersey. I also have a PedalQueens jersey but it runs really big for a small *sigh*. They both have a few logos on them but it's rather subtle.
I wouldn't wear pro teams (Discovery et al.) jerseys though. Some may find it inspiring for themselves. I would be totally uncomfortable in them, for symbolic reasons...
My only problem is that I have two jerseys from my club from our past sponsor, whom I'm not so proud to wear. I might wear them to ride out of town, I'll see...

Our sponsors don't care too much how fast we are riding as long as their name gets out in the community..... we are expected to wear the team kit for all our riding, not just when we are racing. The only time I don't put mine on when I'm riding is if I take the utility bike out for errands - then I just wear street clothes.
It does save on having to try to find jersey's that I like and fit me... my ex-favorite was Canari, but I don't really see any of the nice abstract patterns that they used to offer. I have some great Canari jerseys in storage that fit me perfectly and look like marbled paper (they were called "swirly girl"..)

As a rule I won't wear any jerseys I haven't earned, which means that I don't have any team jerseys except 2 mid- to late 1980's vintage, obscure Euro-team jerseys that DH (a.k.a. eBay Boy) won cheap on eBay b/c they were from the same era and/or teams that rode the old steel Merckx Corsa Extras like mine. I figure after almost 20 years, no one in Southeastern VA will remember or even have heard of those teams and if they have, they'll just dismiss me as a nerdy, middle-aged Fred-ette having a retro-day (oui, c'est moi!) and stay far away from me! :D I do wear event jerseys and those from the cycling clubs we belong to, such as the RABA jersey that John (jeannierides) just posted.

I just got an email from a friend of mine who wanted to know if I ever had any luck selling bike jerseys on Craigslist (no), as she has nearly a hundred (!) jerseys from various events, races, and tours she's done over the years. She's trying to do a "purge" of them, and is fighting against the sentimental attachment. I suppose, if you've been around on the bike long enough, you pick up more than a few trophies! Too bad she's not my size!
I sold one on CraigsList once - but it was a brand new Discovery jersey that I won during the TDF on the OLN online game. It went very quickly.
