I did attend this race last year, and saw Brad Huff (currently on Team Slipstream. Go argyle!) blow the pack away for all but the last handful of laps. It was a blast :D

Crystal City Classic 2007 (http://www.arlingtonsports.org/). They don't seem to have details up yet for this year's event, but this is the info from 2006 (http://www.arlingtonsports.org/home.html).

Man, when did May and June become such busy months?

For anyone considering attending this but unsure about transportation/parking issues... The race course runs literally around the entrance to the Clarendon Metro station, which makes it very easy to get to.

Anyone planning to attend the CSC race (http://www.cscinvitational.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1) in Clarendon this Saturday? I have to work that day, but I talked my boss into letting me take an extended lunch break. I'm going to hop on Metro and head down there for at least part of the men's pro race, which begins at 12:25.

Bobby Julich & JJ Haedo will apparently be racing for CSC, but I'll be rooting for Brad of Slipstream-Chipotle :D

I'm trying to convince the DH to come along. He - like me - wants to see the racing. But he wants to take the bikes and I don't think that's such a hot idea. I think he wants to take the bikes so he can get some riding in (the thought of waking up early and taking a quick ride in the morning doesn't enter his brain). I may be a cycling-widow and go without him if our current argument on "life beyond bicycle rides" boils over.

It's a very exciting race, Regina. They generally begin with over 100 riders and consistently end with less than a third of the field due to crashes. I saw lots of people with bikes last year, but I don't know where DH would ride down there. If you do decide to go, let me know. If we're there at the same time, we could try to meet.

I plan to go w/my spouse. We live very close to the race location, luckily. I definitely want to see the ladies race!

There's plenty of bike racks in Clarendon, but I suspect they will fill up quickly. Regina, tell your husband to ride early. Then, you can get some breakfast in Clarendon---Earl's might be open (it's great--a few blocks east of Revolution Cycles on Clarendon Blvd. If you're an IHOP girl, there's one right next to the metro station in Ballston! ;-)

By the way, when I was out riding on Tuesday, I think I encountered a pro team (either that or a bunch of posers). I rode right behind them for about 2 miles. Not very friendly, either! LOL Orange/black kit--think they were from BMC.

I managed to sneak away from work for about an hour and a half to root for the argyle boys (Team Slipstream) at the CSC race yesterday. Guys were peeling off the course right and left, looking like they were about to drop. By the time I left, only Brad Huff (looking cool in red/white/blue argyle to celebrate his recent USPRO criterium win), Danny Pate and Taylor Tolleson were left from Slipstream. The race ended up being won by a rider from a new team, Rock Racing, whose kit rivals Slipstream's for coolness  Results of both the men's and women's races are here at Velonews (http://www.velonews.com/race/dom/articles/12353.0.html) and Cyclingnews (http://www.cyclingnews.com/road.php?id=road/2007/jun07/cscinvitational07).

Oh, you got the crash!
I was there, too.
I posted some pix on the June 2nd ride report thread.
Check em out (I can't post any here now, b/c I'm on the laptop and the pics are downloaded to the p.c.).

You got a great shot of Brad Huff (your third one, he's the mullett-boy in the front), Regina! Every time he passed by I'd yell "Go Brad!" and by about the sixth time, he turned and looked back, apparently trying to find the crazy person rooting for him :D I also like that other argyle shot you got, can't tell if it's number 65 or 66, though (not that it matters, I'm not familiar with either of those riders).

Sounds like you and DH had a terrific day, between the race and then a swoop around Rosaryville. And I had to go back to work... I'm so jealous

Man, I really wanted to go, maybe snag some fun apparel (my ex got a ton of socks last year) and look at all the sexy, chiseled, shaved legs...however, the odds of running into my ex-boyfriend sort of took the fun out of the idea of going. Sigh...maybe next year.

*Kali weighs ex-boyfriend sighting vs sweaty, chiseled-legged pro cyclists*

Seems to me, having the ex-bf see you ogling some sweaty, chiseled-legged pros would be good payback ;)
