Good luck on your first 5K this coming up Sunday! I know you are very exicted about it!

So, you have a 5K coming up this weekend?

YES AND I'M REALLY EXCITED!!!!!!! Can you tell? It's actually a piggy-back event to a half-marathon.

ANYHOW, it's the first 5K where I'm going to attempt to jog the whole thing. But if I have to stop to walk for a minute or two, I'm not going to consider it a failure or anything. I've actually only done 3.1 miles without walking twice, and both times were on the treadmill. I'm hoping the excitement of the moment, the bands and the stadium finish will help me do the race without walking. A PR would be nice, too.

Have fun and run as far as you can! Then come back with a detailed race report.

:D

And if you have done it before you CAN do the entire thing without walking!! Keep out of your head! It's all mental, or as the Aussie dude on the Kona show said "It's all up top". We believe in you, now believe in yourself (not that I think you don't, just sayin) and go out there and have fun!
I'll be thinking of you!!
Slow down if you must, but keep a jog on. And remember my mantra "the faster you run, the faster your done"...
Cheers!

Oh, ladies, I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. Work has been absolutely crazy! But you gals are absolutely WONDERFUL!

Anyhow, I did it! Here's my race report and a picture. The photo is incredibly embarrassing, but I figure one day they'll give me something to look back to. And oh, BTW, this is *after* I've lost 40 pounds. Although I do think it's cool you can see my quads (on the outside of my legs).

My big goal going into this race was to jog the entire distance -- something I've never done. In September, when I got a personal trainer, I told him that my goal was to go under 40 minutes in this 5K. At the time I weighed 253 pounds.

And today, I jogged 5 miles. Incredibly slow, but 5 miles nonetheless. Amazing.

Race report:

Distance: 5K
Finish time: 39:20
Age group rank: 46/46. Oh, well. This race was a major victory for me.

For the first mile, I planned to take it very easy. I wanted my watch to read 12:45 to 13 minutes at the 1-mile mark, and I was at 12:45 at the marker. For the second mile, I wanted to keep my HR under 172, and I did perfectly until the water break. My HR spiked to 179, but I slowed down and was able to bring it back down without taking a walking break.

The stadium finish was awesome, and I could see the clock. I set a new PR by 1 minute from December. I also jogged the entire distance.

I totally agree. Looks like you finished strong. When I finished my first 5k I felt and looked like I might pass out.
