Sunglasses...

Ok, here in the BEAUTIFUL southwest, sun is REALLY starting to become an issue. I've tried to wear the WylieX's they issued DH for Iraq but they have a foam that fits your face....GREAT FOR WIND BLASTS....So I bought another pair, and they still fog up!
I've been looking at Oakley, becuase I know they are good,but can anyone recommend some shades that are not going to fog up on me riding and that aren't heavy. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the Smith Slider series glasses. They have interchangeable lenses. Some of the styles are rimless on the bottom so they allow for good ventilation.

I've also seen some glasses at Performance Bike that have vents in the top.

I'm not sure if there is an absolute solution for fogging up. They only thing I find to help with that is to not slow down. :)

I ordered the Tifosi Slip from Zappo's when I was commuting in the winter & my Nike sunglasses were fogging up like crazy:

The vented lens design really works well, both in colder weather and in hot weather (though when it was 5 degrees and snowing I had to resort to ski goggles...). They're comfortable too, and a great deal -- $50 for decent frames, 4 interchangeable lenses with decent optics (in rose, yellow, smoke and clear), and a sturdy case. Okay so they're not as stylin as Smith's, Oakley's, Rudy's etc but I think they're a good buy.

Jenn, I use Oakley Half-Jackets XLJ and love them. But, if you have a pair of sunglasses you like and fogging is the issue try "Cat Crap". Yes, I'm serious. It's a product that I get at REI. It's an anti-fog/lens cleaner. It works awesome. Here's a link so you can see what it looks like--but, like I said I get it at REI. I use it on all my specs, even non-cycling wear.

I have the half jackets too, and love them.

I can vouch for cat crap. We use it on our ski goggles, it really works. I didn't notice fogging problems on my regular sunglasses, but I suspect I just lived with it and didn't even think of cat crap. :o

Do most sunglasses come polarized? I have real sun issues with glare (it gives me migraines).

I have a pair of Oakley Minutes with dark amber lenses. They are not polarized, but they really help cut down on my migraines. Oddly enough, gray lenses (even polarized ones) give me headaches!

The Oakleys only fog up on me at stoplights, and generally clear again as soon as I start moving. The lawnmower goggles I wear on cloudy days or in the dark fog up more often, so I might look into some Cat Cr@p for them.

Edit: Oakley doesn't make Minutes anymore. Mine are about 9 years old and still going strong, but someday I'll have to replace them, so I'm keeping an eye on this thread. :D

I LOVE my Rudy Project glasses. They're a couple years old, so I couldn't find a pic on their Web site, but here's one of me riding toward some singletrack in Vegas' Red Rock Canyon a couple weeks ago.

They have really big coverage, which was important to me after coming in from gritty spring road rides with red, achy eyes. They're kind of expensive, but considering the number of days per year/miles I ride, they were a great investment. And I really like the blue lenses; polarized and cut glare really well (AND I have really sensitive eyeballs) and no noticeable scratches in my third season of riding with them.

After the tabs broke off my mirror, I electrical-taped it to the side of the glasses, so I don't just wear them around town! They live in my helmet for on-bike use only. Best mirror ever, btw. I feel way safer in traffic.

Protect those eyeballs! :cool:

I also wear Tifosi's. I have a pair of Envy and a pair of the Quam 1.5 and I love them both. The Envy's are my favorite for summer riding because they have a bit more sun coverage. They come with interchangeable lens or with polarized ones. Lots of options and many, many frame styles.

The owner of my LBS told me that the guy who started Tifosi was actually from Rudy Project who went out on his own because he felt that there was a market for high quality affordable lenses. I have no idea how true that is....

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions, going to LBS to try some that ya'll mentioned out.:cool: I really like the look of the Tifosi's I like the openings on the lens, because they way I sweat....ugh....fog is just always an issue with what I'm wearing now.

And I cannot WAIT to go into REI and ask for some "cat crap.":D

I have these, too. From personal experience - they stay on in a fairly substantial crash. I love them!

Jenn- You will enjoy Tifosi's. I am on my second pair, about to get a third. I ordered some without vents and that was a mistake. I am going back to the Quam's. At $50 I even could tolerate one of my dogs eating my first Quams.

And I always have to add the otehr thing I like about them- my DH wore his Quam's when he accidently ran into the back of a truck. He had a sprained wrist and a nasty gash on his head, but the Quams had no damage. :)
