Even though I have several beautifully inlaid mahogany/ebony/motherof pearl banjos, my favorite banjo just happens to be my "ugliest" one...it has a white formica fretboard with little gold sparkles embedded in it - yes just like the old kitchen countertops. Sometimes ugly is the coolest of all.
