View Full Version : My attempt at a Metric

I say attempt because it was not a good day. I was riding in an area I was totally unfamiliar with.

1. I dropped my chain 6 times. Needless to say that did not have a good affect on my mood.

2. Although the area was unfamiliar, the route was well-marked. That is until it crossed over the ride route from a ride the previous week. Yes, thanks to my frequent chain stops, I was behind so ended up following the wrong route. They had a cue sheet but since many of the streets had no signs, it wasn't real useful. I finally figured out that I was wrong somewhere when my computer said I was 2 miles past the second reststop with no sign of it. So I get on the cell and try to tell them where I am (I have no clue). So I settled on riding back til I found someone to ask. Found a guy in his horse barn who told me where I was, which was a very long way from where I shoulda been. I called and they came and got me. It took us a half hour to get back to the start point in a car!

I did get in 50 miles. I got a t-shirt that is way too big and a new water bottle. Wasn't my best day. So I had a milkshake.

I was supposed to do the 50K version of this ride today, and subsequently I got lost (novices don't know how to read spray paint signs!) and ended up on the 100K route.

I got shuttled to the second rest stop after finally stopping at the first, and ended up doing about 40 miles instead of 32.

I was so glad SouthernBelle claimed me when the same guy had to pick her up and told her he picked up a girl named Megan.

Oh, & I left out the part about my saddle. The bolt that holds it in place worked lose. I could figure out why I was so uncomfortable & it was because the saddle had slid all the way back on the rails. So I had to take off the saddle bag, tighten the bolt, put the bag back on, and of course it still wasn't right. It was tilted up. Not comfortable.

I think if safe to say many of us have had similar experiences. I can look back on some and laugh today and others, well I choose not to look back because I still fume!

What kind of milkshake did you have?

Mmm, chocolate.

I know the Silver family drives past me on their way to Bama. Stop off and we'll have a milk shake & even a ride. Everybody else is invited for both. We'll take a route I know!

Who likes malt in their shake?

Dont tell Jobob but Leebob and I fantasize when we ride together. oh he'd in big trouble now ...

... except since I'm still feeling crummy, he went out and got us pizza for dinner, and he even let me pick the variety - mushroom, anchovy and garlic.

So all is forgiven.

Next time we all do a ride together, we'll find milkshakes afterwards.

Lebanon, Tn. Home of Cracker Barrel - Old Country Store!

We used to live in Nashville for many years!

Well, we're only two hours away.

We need to get the Middle Tn/Central KY folks together for a group ride somewhere in the middle!!!

I grew up in Nashville. My terrible lostness yesterday was riding out of Murfreesboro/Rockvale.

We have a Coldstone Creamery conveniently located in Mt. Juliet.

I once went to dinner with a friend and her father was saying, "Oh that's the home of... uh..."
"Cracker Barrel?"
"Um, no, Hartmann Luggage! They make great briefcases."

I had never, ever had Lebanon connected with Hartmann before.

Next time we all do a ride together, we'll find milkshakes afterwards.I hadn't had a milkshake in like ferever! But on the way home last year from the Wine Country Century I just had to stop in Sonoma for one (Bubba is so nice). I must have been channeling you.

Chocolate. Just chocolate. Mmmmm.

Lotta sympathy you're getting, SB. You should never have mentioned food. You caused the immediate hijack yourself.

I'm good with the food discussion.

BTW, Mr. Silver, you missed the tent sale at the outlet store last weekend.

Well, since this thread seems pretty well hijacked ;) I might as well tell you if you're ever riding in eastern Washington, go to Ferdinand's creamery on the WSU campus for your shake! It's been twenty years since I was in school there, but I'll never forget them!

I might be up your way in June. I have to help my parents drive to an event there, no riding for me, except in a car- that is if we go.

Darn y'all, now I'm in serious need of a milkshake with no relief in sight!

Hey a decent try at it is impressive.....and practice for the next one. :)
(I'm not sure if I'm talking Metrics or Milkshakes here, so let's say BOTH)
