Can anyone provide feedback on how much recovery is best after an IM? I did AZ on Sunday, 15 April and have taken it so easy this week I am dying!

I want to start at least riding, swimming, and lifting again but don't want to mess myself up.

Any suggestions?

thanks
Laura

If this was your A race and you're not planning on doing any more tris this summer, I would suggest 2 weeks off and then return to activity, but cross train. Do something totally different. Learn how to kayak whatever. I think it's really important to have at least on really casual month after an IM and better to have 2.

If you're racing more this season, you need to still take about 2 weeks off. Then start back slowly, with something like riding in zone 1 to 2 to test out how your body feels. Although you may feel stir crazy right now, you may feel really wiped out once you try to do something.

Take it easy.

Great finish BTW.

Congrats on your race, Laura!!! It's a monumental accomplishment, and one I know you're immensely proud of!!! :)

Take it easy for the next month, but not too easy. Like Wahine said, keep everything in zone 1 and 2 for a while. I remember my first bike ride a week after my IM I did an EASY 10 miler, but my body was so fatigued it was ridiculous- legs burning, out of breath- just silly. Just don't take it tooooo easy, or your body will reject training again when you start back up (and, um... yeah I'm talking from experience on this one  ).

Congrats again!!!!
Did you post a race report (I need to jump over to the other board)?

Thanks for the tips! No, i did not post a race report (yet) but I should. At least to help myself sort out what went well and what not so well.

I will take this week easy, then start to rebuild. I want to do a sprint tri in May, then I have to move to Alabama in late June which will be a forced lay-off from training.
