Denise - I am only just now catching up with your achievements and reading your race report. What an amazing woman you are ! I am SO impressed that you have done the IM more than once - who cares if you were unable to finish this particular time! I went off the youtube to find your video and cried watching it. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

You know tri girl. That is the real sucky part! I am WAY more fit this year than last, yet I didn't finish. But I'm just going to rally this fitness into a strong year and only build on it. I have an appt. to go see someone about my weight issues. It's kind of a different approach to weight loss, so I'll wait to see how it goes to comment further. All I know is I'd be alot lighter on my feet if I had that last 30 lbs off my carcass.
Also my husband has caught the IM bug. Thats right ladies (and mr. silver) running hubby wants to sign up for next year. The thought of having him race with me is something that I've only dreamed about. He has always said it wasn't for him. Well I think he's finally realized just how cool Ironman really is. The people that surround this race are amazing. The athletes I mean. I have yet to meet a rude person at the race site. Everyone is soo kind. Actually even the pro's and event staff are cool. I talked with Mike reilly at the kids race on saturday morning. He is freaking FUNNY! And all the pro's I have met. Man, it's just very cool.
So next year you may be following TWO members of the Amos family! That will just be over the top!!
Anyway, thanks again for all your kind words everyone. You are all friends in my book. I may not know you all personally, but I consider you my friend.
Be safe!
Denise
P.S. I went to the volunteer dinner tonight to pick up stuff for my adopt an IM kids. It was very hard to face that, but I held my head high and went anyway.

To me, you do look WAY stronger this year than last. I know you're being very positive, but not being able to finish a massive undertaking like this is hard. Some days you just have bad races (or runs, or bike rides), it just really, really sucks that your bad day was the IM you've been training so hard for.
And if Tony wants to do it next year with you- how awesome would that be????? Good job on reeling him in... :p
Good luck with your appt, and let us know how it goes. I know that I was racing a lot better when I was 15 lbs lighter, so I understand your frustration. I just can't seem to clean my diet up enough (can they remove the sweet taste buds off my tongue and replace them with bitter so I hate the taste of treats??).

And good for you for heading to the volunteer dinner. I know it was hard, but I'm proud that you went despite the difficulty!

Wow Denise - how cool that Tony wants to do it as well. That is great! It's nice to have a training partner.

Great pictures.

Denise, that is SO COOL that Tony's interested!!! Keep us posted. I agree that your pix reflect your level of fitness. You just got slammed by the wind. Bad luck, nothing about your training, and probably not really even your nutrition. It's a helluva race anyway, made so much worse by the wind. I think of Tim DeBoom in the back of an ambulance at Kona one year--he had a kidney stone. Of all days, why that day?!? But it happens. Peter Reid with MRSA, etc. You're now in the elite ranks of wounded IM warriors who come back to fight another day! :D love, L.

My friend Kevin sent me a few pics, so I added them to the photobucket site. Incl is one of me chatting with Mike Reily the "voice" of Ironman... He was pretty dang funny.
