I don't want to put fenders on my bike for my ride Saturday.
Why can't the rain just stay in Alaska for one more day? :D

I'm starting to dislike spring, if the wind isn't blowing like 50mph then it's raining!! We finally got our trailer to put our daughter in and were soo looking foward to taking her out this weekend....NOT!

we're putting the fenders on for sure. of course all the reports yesterday said rain in the morning, which meant you had a chance of missing it. regardless I am hosed (no pun intended  ). it does make the whole "do I pack rain pants or don't i?" dilemma a little easier.

From Kent Peterson's SIR 300K report (link posted on the LD Girls thread).
Pulling out of Port Hadlock, Albert Meerscheidt explains weather forecasting to me. "You see," he says, "a 40% chance of rain means it's going to be raining somewhere in the forecast area. And if we are out riding, there is a 100% chance that rain is going to be falling on us." Profound observations like this are the key to the club's camaraderie.
Being up in Seattle I suppose they know from things like this.

oh that's funny!! yeah, I figure if I am riding a 400k then I will be riding into the rain at some point. my hope is the rain is going west to east during the morning when I am going east to west so I get it for a shorter period of time. but I doubt that'll happen.
it rained at about the 200k mark of the 600k last year - rain so thick it was hard to breathe. I survived.

I briefly considered doing the whole thing. The weather forecast changed my mind.

Yeah, Sunday, when they're forecasting clear and 70s... grump, grump.
I'm tellin ya, if those Alaskans would just kindly reach up and grab hold of that cold front for one more day, I'd be so grateful. :)

I agree, although no snow, LI has had cold temps and now rain with more coming in on Sunday (my weekend day off).

bought some freddy fenders yesterday. checked forecast.. many of them (accuweather, wunderground, weather bug) all say 80-90% chance of rain and even chance of t-storms :(
dang... succumbed and put the fenders on. only the back ones though.
looks like its going to be an... invigorating ride.
(lights incense, chants) This is my offering to the good weather gods....
I'm racing tomorrow and this race last year was the one where we got rain, hail and snow... oh please ye gods of good weather - move that system through a little more quickly so the good weather predicted for Sunday actually occurs tomorrow...... (rings bells, dances in circles...)

Okay, so what is the best thing to wear when it's raining? I've got rainpants but I HATE them! If I sweat at all I'm soaking wet all day -- and then forget taking them off -- I'd freeze! We're going out for a ride tomorrow, it will likely rain, but I'm so sick of those rainpants I'm just going to wear fleece! Wise?

Well, today WAS supposed to be the "warmer" and sunnier day before the storm. It's now 10:40 AM and what sun there was is struggling not to disappear behind the clouds. It's 47, which isn't really bad, but windy. It's supposed to be very sunny, low fifties.
I already ditched a group ride that started at ten. The sun is trying to come back out, so I am now hoping for a 1 PM starts, since I want to do my first over 30 mile ride of the season today.
Tomorrow looks like rain, snow, and wind. Monday doesn't look too good either. I pity the runners in the Marathon Monday. Hopefully, it will clear after that, because i am on break this week.

I'm geared up to join MP at the 200 K mark in Geyserville. Since it's raining, I've worked out how to carry both batteries so I can have lights on for 12 hours. Maybe a dyno hub isn't such a bad idea.
I couldn't find the correct rear fender for Fluffy. I had it in Nova Scotia. I wonder if I left it in my sister's garage. But we're a completely fender enabled family, so I took Thom's. Of course mine were painted and his are silver... but I'll be drier.

Best of luck, V ! Hopefully the rain will have subsided by the time you start out, but the roads will still be wet so you guys be careful out there.

Good luck, Veronica! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Robin--Are you all getting snow from that evil Nor'easter that's due to arrive here later today? We're getting a lot of rain and more strong winds, which probably will mean no riding outside tomorrow. Is the Boston Marathon still on?
You know what's going to happen: we will go directly from cold temps into the 90s w/high humidity. Of course, I will take that over the incessant winds and any snow (30 mph gusts when I rode yesterday and I don't even want to think about what I will encounter on Monday in the nor'easter's wake--just hoping that they aren't cross winds. Earlier this year, I rode in 50 mph gusts w/some wicked cross winds).

Alas, I'm not a big pancake fan.

I don't know what it is about pancakes. They get cold too fast and they seem sort of flavorless and kind of without texture. It's what makes me a princess I guess. :p

But we have macadamia nut pancakes with Brown Cow vanilla yoghurt and peaches, or maple syrup and PB, applesauce. Plus two kinds of sausage: chicken apple and wild blueberry. Bubba may put bananas in the pancakes also.

So many wet, frozen popcicle riders at the rest stop today! This is only the second time since I've worked the Tierra Bella that I've seen it rain like this! We started making raincoats out of our garbage bags for some of the riders.

Velob., the Boston Marathon is still on. This is the first time there was even talk about cancelling. They are making all of these emergency shelters along the route; school buses, other public buildings for people to get dry, warm, or quit! The Kenyans are not used to running in this weather (40s, rain) so it will be interesting to see how they do. Now the forecast is saying drizzle on Monday, with the worst of the rain/snow today. But there are supposed to be up to 40 mph headwinds on the course. I don't think we are going ot get snow here, but it will be snowing about 20 miles west of here, or at higher elevations. It's also a holiday here on Monday, to celebrate the battle of Lexington and Concord. I live right where most of the stuff takes place, and that is going to be ruined, also. Who wants to go see parades and battle reenactments in a Nor'easter? There's hundreds of tourists around and they must be pissed!

I have discovered the magic of fenders. Man, folks were passing me  and they had this big wet spot on their back side. brrrrr... yet another place to lose warmth. Not only that but I know understand why Mimi's club requires fenders up in Seattle.. . Those bikes kick up a lot of dirty spray if you're following behind them I had to hang back like 10-20 ft so I didn't get a face full of that stuff.
Seems like I was thinking of you TE gals a lot on my ride yesterday and that I've learned a lot and been inspired a lot by you folks :)
Thanks...
Special thanks to V for saving my butt (from freezing!)
