FIVE days to Ironman and my stress level is through the roof!!
This morning I go for a ride on my brand spanking new tire and my bike starts acting up about an hour in. I took it in last week for a pre race tune up and I think it did more harm than good! They claimed that I needed a new chain, which is entirely possible seeing all the miles I have put on her, so I said go ahead. They put on a dura ace chain, not sure what the stock one was, but I have a good mix of DA and Ultegra on the drive train.
So Saturday on my two hour ride I noticed something didn't sound right. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I was afraid it was in my drive train. It seemed to pedal and shift smoothly, but I kept hearing something. I thought it might have been my never reach bottle rattling, so I didn't investigate any further.
Well like I said, this morning all heck broke loose! First I started hearing a persistant clicking. I have bar end shifters, so I kept thinking i just needed to trim out the derailluer (sp?) or something, but nothing seemed to work. Then it just starting shifting on it's own all crazy. Every pedal stroke it would clunk and shift. Luckily I was close to home because I had to bag it in!
So I'm freaking out because I can't have this happening in the race!
And to add to it all....
When I checked my work email I found out that the CFO has decided that I'm going to take on the OSHA and work comp duties for the entire company. A bunch of people left at our main office, and I had volunterred to take some stuff on. I just got a cool work from home gig, so I figured I could take a few things on. Of course this is NOT the week to be dumping this on me! OY!!!! And there are some issues.. Oh yes, there are issues. And NO ONE seems to know whats going on. I kinda got a "here ya go, good luck" from everyone.
So while I'm trying to deal with that I figured I'd sneak my bike in. The kid at the shop did some adjustments, but I'm not totally convinced that it's fixed. I guess I'll have to go out tomorrow morning. I rode it a few minutes ago and it seems much better. But the guy didn't really seem that confident when he handed her back to me. I asked him if it was the cables or what and he kinda shrugged and said "yeah, I did some adjustments. It seems fine now"...
OY!!!! I REALLY don't need the stress! No I don't!!!
Oh and to top that off... Now they are calling for a windy day on Sunday.
Boy the cards are just NOT falling in my direction this week are they?!
sigh... Thanks for the ear girls. I appreciate your cyber shoulders!! :p
Ciao

P.S. But on the upside. I am healthy and going to get to do something I love this weekend. After seeing the Gages get their passion ripped from them last November, I must always count my blessings. I'll race for all of those who can't.
