Hi. Have been doing some maintenance to a 30 year old bike and have found that Autosol Metal Polish (made in Germany - comes in a tube like toothpaste) is great for removing stubborn rust. Rust which would not budge using other stuff was quite easily removed with the above substance and 'elbow grease' (buffing).

For individual nuts and bolts and things, drop it in a can of molasses and leave it awhile- few days or so- the chelation action of the molasses will remove the rust beautifully. For frame-type-things, I'd suggest covering the affected spot with molasses generously, then wrapping it to keep it damp?

I suppose you could. Not sure about iron poisoning but what a cure for anemia! :p

That may be tough in some places on the bike. Maybe you could just wipe it off with a pancake.
