I thought I'd start a thread for the racers on this board to let others know when they'd be racing in California, in case anyone from the forum wants to come watch, etc. I almost posted this in the Race Results topic heading, but figured this would be more visible & handy here.
This isn't just for me --- So. Cal., No. Cal., wherever-you-are-in-Cal...please post your race plans! That way perhaps race-watching can be planned into road trips, etc. (we might be heading down to Disneyland this summer with the kids....hint!!). It would be a good idea to post your race start time and what team you're on (w/kit colors) so that we can look for you.
Happy racing....

I'm looking to do this crit in Santa Rosa: Santa Rosa Corporate Criterium #2 (http://www.renesraces.com/images/corp_crit_2_2007_race_flyer.doc)
My race starts at 12:25 and is scheduled for 45 minutes. Top five finishers get prizes.
Team: CVC (Central Valley Cycling); dark & light blue w/white kit colors. I'll have another teammate with me, Charlotte. If you see either of us, come say hi. I'll have to remember to tell her beforehand that she may be approached by well-intentioned total strangers. :p
Hope to see ya there & good luck to those racing...:)

I'll be doing the Valley Girls Ride in October :) I'm going to be a wimp and do the 10 miler, but I'm really excited! They also have a 35 miler and a metric century. I think it's in Fresno, or maybe it's Clovis. Oh well, I've got a few months to figure it out.
Oh and I'll be wearing the Just Us Girls Triathlon Club jersey (Pink & black with dragonflies all over it) :D

Heya BikeMomma! What else is on your schedule? I went and watched the Crit in Tuolumne, that was very cool... the women's race ROCKED!!!Hey Tracy...glad you got to go! I couldn't make it after all....grrrrrr. DH said he wanted to go, but actions speak louder than words and I couldn't get anybody in the house -- him or the kids -- to move their tush fast enough to make it up there in time. My teammate & friend Charlotte nabbed third...she's been rockin' this season thus far. She's podiumed her last four races or so. She's a Cat 3 and I heard she really held her own out there....painfully but she held it, nonetheless. She said it was tactical there at the end. Sounded exciting & I'm reeeeally sorry I missed it. The guys from Merced (Stanislaus-Merlock) and the CVC guys did well, too. It was an awesome day for all ('cept moi....I was pouting at home! :( :D ).
I haven't looked past Santa Rosa yet....still nursing the hurt back, but I figure I can try this one and see how I do/feel from there. I've been fairly strong in training, our group rides have been fast lately, so we'll see.
Hope you can make it out to another one!

I'm racking my brain trying to remember the lady that was 3rd... it was a great race! The sprint at the end was pretty exciting!!! In fact, the women's race was almost more exciting than the pro/cat345 race at the end :p I remember seeing the Merlock team, and some women w/blue polka dot kits...
I wish I could go watch you at Santa Rosa but it won't work out this time ... I expect a full report though!! :D

October? Aw come on...you can do the 35-miler, no problem, and maybe even the metric if you train well. You have six months to build your conditioning. Definitely ride in the early mornings in the summer if you can in these hot Valley summers. It doesn't cool off much in the summer -- be back from your rides in the mornings by 10am/11am at the latest, and you're good to go. Good luck on your ride!

Man, I SO wanna try track racing. I have an old Bianchi bike that was given to me that I probably can convert to track. All I need is another few hours in the day to work on it and money for new parts, wheels, etc. and I'm good-2-go. Not much to ask, is it? :D

Well, I'm not doing this race after all. After mulling it over, came to the conclusion that: 1) the fields will be small because of the Sea Otter and Santa Cruz crit on Sunday, so not as many BAR points will be given (which is what Char is going after); and 2) a 40-minute race is perhaps not worth a 3-hour drive; and finally 3) I'd rather go do a nice, long, beneficial hill ride. :)
However, all is not lost. Looks like we may instead do the Wente Crit (http://www.vsrt.net/wente2007.html) on Sunday, April 22nd. This one's in Livermore....mo' betta. :D It was a fun one last year.
Velogirl (if you're watching this thread) -- didn't you do the Wente crit last year? Hope to see ya there. :)

Spazz, my husband has been going down there from time to time. He really likes it to the point we even picked up a track bike for him. :) He hasn't gone much this year, however, since he's concentrating his efforts on several road races for this year. (He's down in the LA area this weekend for one in fact).

Awesome!
My race (Cat 4 races with the Master 35+ women) is at 2:50pm, scheduled for 40 minutes. The pro/1/2 men race after me.
If you're interested in watching the pro/1/2/3 women (Charlotte's a Cat 3, so we'll be there that early too), that race is at 12:50pm. Should be a good one.

Need some input from you guys.... I'm pasting the link to the course map and topo map of the Wente road race, which is the day before the crit:
Wente RR course map (http://www.vsrt.net/WRR06map1.jpg)
Wente RR topo map (http://www.vsrt.net/Profile2.jpg)
Can someone tell me about these roads? Hate to admit, but I'm a complete novice at topo maps...don't really know how to read one!! I know Cross Rd pretty clearly in the ol' noggin from the Cindy (looks like the RR goes the opposite direction??), but I can't recall if I've been on the other roads (I've thrown away my Cindy map...figures). I'm sorta thinking of perhaps doing the road race too...trying my legs at a road race for a change.
Any input is appreciated! Thanks mucho. :D

....in Salinas! Here's the link to the race info: Steinbeck Country Oldtown Criterium (http://www.breathhold.com/VOSRacing/Steinbeck%20Criterium.htm) .
Haven't done this one before, so it should be interesting. My race is nice & early at 8:45am. Gives me time to race, grab some grub & a latte, perhaps dip my toes in the surf, and then make the drive back home to be pampered by my kids for Mom's Day. I'll have the best there is: bikes, coffee, the ocean, & my kids. :p :)

Racing Monday on Memorial Day! My race is at 9am (yawn).
Trek Bicycle Store Memorial Day Criterium (http://www.teamsanjose.org/memorialday/2007/crit/)
I'll probably stick around to watch the Wm 1/2/3 race at 11:30, then it's back home to the family for the rest of the holiday.
Take care & have a great weekend!

Hey Kim... I was at the race today, but I probably just missed you! We showed up around 11:30 or so and Jonathan and Elizabeth did the kids race! I wish I had checked ahead of time to see if you were racing or not.
We watched the women's 1/2/Pro race and the Master's race and then the kids rode. Then we took off. How did you do? My friend, Kim Taylor, rode in your race (I think). She rides for San Jose BC and she said she did okay... finished in the middle of the pack and she was the oldest one there, so she was happy. She said it was COLD!

Hiya Slinke!
I was there! I stayed for the W1/2/3 race because my friend Charlotte just upgraded to a Cat 2 and was racing. We travel to the races together most of the time, and I'm usually the designated driver because my roof rack fits two bikes. Her husband Eugene races, but only occasionally.
Darn! I didn't see you either! At the start of her race, I grabbed a water bottle and walked the course. This was one of Char's first races as a Cat 2, so I figured I'd be a cheering voice where she least expected it...on the back nines of the course. She said at one point, she heard voices cheering for her everywhere on the course from various people, which was a huge moral boost for her. Must have worked, because she came screamin' home in 8th place. I swear that girl is a freakin' animal! Brooke Miller was in the race, but she raced hard yesterday in the Mt. Hamilton RR (1st, of course), so she didn't do much in today's crit.
How did your kids like the race? It's so cool to see kids out there rippin' it up.
As for me, I placed 12th in the 3/4's race. Not too bad out of a field of 31. Had decent position around the final corner and then moved up a few spots. The finishing straight is perfect for my sprint. Fun course, smooth pavement. I remember a San Jose rider....does she have dark brown hair, longish? It WAS cold! Right after my race, the sun came out and then it started to get warm.
Sorry I missed ya, but glad you made it out with the kids. Start 'em young, I say! :p

Forgot to tell you guys I was racing today, so I owe yet another race report (I'm falling behind!! Bad me!). But -- I'm also racing tomorrow (Sunday 6/3): EMC2/Vellum Crit (https://www.sportsbaseonline.com/files_flyers/1720.pdf). Race is in Pleasanton and the Wm Cat 4 race starts at 10:30am.
Hope to see a fellow TE'er or two out there!! My DH & kids are coming to this one, since it's not as early as the last few races. :)
