Do any of you pick helmets for their bright color-to be seen? or coordinate w/ jersey/bike etc./or both? Just a fun curious question.
I bought new helmets this week. blue/purple youth helmet for my daughter and a Giro Transfer Red one for me. I wanted something bright :)

You're gonna laugh...
I have a HUGE head, so I used to buy helmets in black or dark grey figuring that dark colors were slimming on the head like they are on the body. :D
Now that I've had a few close calls, I'm all about the visibility. Screw the big head worries! :p My current helmet is white (and it happens to match my bike, too) because I figure it's not only more visible in low light, but it may be cooler in the sun too.

I started a thread last year about my search for a solid bright yellow helmet. Turns out it was not easy to find one! Most helmets these days have various color swirls and splashes.
I finally found a bright yellow one in a discontinued Limar brand model, and am very happy with it. They had 2 "unisex" sizes: S/M and M/L. The S/M is just barely small enough for me- any larger and the straps would not have fit right.
I have since bought a screamingly bright neon yellow biking windbreaker, vest, and jersey. I care less now for coordinated colors and more for safety & visibility. I think that brilliant yellow is more visible from afar than any other color- even than bright red, orange, blue, or white. Still trying to get DH to wear something bright.

Currently I have a dark helmet, because I just preferred the dark color. I think my next helmet will be a light color because of heat. When we're in the middle of summer on a hot humid day, I swear I can feel the sun beating on my black helmet. I have hopes that a light color will keep my head cooler.
I gave up on buying a nice bright visible helmet and bought a white helmet. Most this year models just have a few streaks of bright color(not visible at a distance). White will be ok with my celeste bianchi and anything color I wear. Trek had a style with solid orange and yellow.

My helmet is pink and white to match my pink bike, which matches my pink jerseys, etc. All of the pink is visible and gets seen, enough so that the various cyclists I encounter on my daily rides remember me, whereas I can't remember them because they blend into the background. Except for one old real skinny man with a long white bristling beard and I can remember him ok. Today a couple of male cyclists went by on the other side of the road and called out "Lookin' pink!" Well yep. Cars see me, and cyclists see me, and that is what is important.

I saw an orange/red one w/ visor, a gold/yellow same as other. In the Giro, I tried the silver and blue-close choice. I had been looking forever for a Limar yellow but Performance won't keep them stocked so I gave up. It would have gone with my bike(silver w/ yellow/black stripe). I'll have to find a red/white jersey to pull together the red/black ensemble.

I have a silver Giro helmet, and I bought cycling shoes that match (quite by accident lol). But I have put some orange reflective stickers on it to help with visibility.

I have two, my road bike helmet is yellow and my mtn bike helmet is grey. I prefer the lighter colors as it keeps me cooler as it doesn't absorb as much heat from the sun. I have a friend that always picks on me because it does not match my bike or any of my jerseys. oh well, I guess I am not the queen of fashion:)
Like they all said: bright to be seen (whether by cars, or by your mtb buddies after you've crashed into the bushes!), and light to reduce the heat. don't buy black - you'll be sorry you did.
And, yes, yellow is the most visible, but other bright colours work quite well.

When I was waiting for my bike to be delievered, I bought a wonderful shiny blue Giro to match my bike, but never used it. I never even took it out of the box, because I decided my main concerns were visibility and lots and lots of holes, for airflow, and my pretty blue didn't have enough holes to suit me, and I wasn't so sure about the visibility.
I ended up with a flat white Giro that is actually made for mountain biking (or so I was told) because in my price range, it had the most holes.
I've since considered getting a bright yellow like Lisa SH and may yet -- but it will have to have LOTS of air flow. My head gets way hot in the Texas heat; I can hardly bear to wear a cap or hat of any kind. When I take it off, my head is as drenched as if somebody had dumped a bucket of steaming hot water over me.

My Specialized Allez Elite is a nice sexy superdark grey, and I think dark helmets look badass... so I got a black helmet with pink stripes on the sides. Badass with a girly flair :)

Mine is pink and white with dark pink flowers. Very girly, but my bike is black so I had to have a bit of color somewhere! It also makes me very easy to spot in a crowd...

Mine is a purply/lilac shade. After trying on several helmets, it was the only one that fitted properly and comfortably. I'm a blue and purple girl so I was happy with the colour.
Went to buy a decent pair of cycling shorts yesterday (same shop I'm getting my new bike from). They only had one pair of extra small - which were bright scarlet red:eek: I had to say no to them as I detest wearing red. They're hoping to get a new delivery by the weekend. Black or navy blue is fine with me:D
I do wear a high-viz vest when I'm on the road though. See and be seen:D

White, silver or yellow to reflect the sun.

OMG, I thought my husband and I were the ONLY XL headed people in the world. I wore his helmet until I got mine, the women's wouldn't even fit me!! Maybe that is why my daughter had such a difficult time coming into the world and need a vacumn assist to help her. Yes we have BIG noggins and our helmets are boring silver....that is all we could find in.....MEGA head size:D

My helmet is sort of silvery white and I love it! I don't think it's boring at all! ;) In fact it's my favorite color! :D
