Hello folks,
I'm a dedicated lurker with fat feet. Here is my problem. I am an average woman in just about every way except my feet. These babies are size 7 1/2 double wide. Do you know what a pain it is trying to find cycle shoes that fit? Help! I'm a road biker, but mtn shoes would work equally well. I found a brand that I think might fit, but unfortunately they seem to be an old style and not stocked any longer. Northwave, Rockster, size 40.
To make matters worse, I have a very high instep on my right foot, the result of a very, very old bike injury.
If anyone has any advice for my shoe search, I will be forever in your debt.
Many thanks,
Gwen

Hi Gwen,

Speaking as someone who is challenged at that way (though my feet are way bigger than yours), I know where you're coming from. Sidi makes a wide shoe -- theirs will say Mega in the name. I also looked at the Performance site and there's a wide version of a Shimano shoe called the Shimano R151 Wide Road shoe. I just got new shoes that are working ok, they are the Specialized Torch road shoes. Despite the womens sizing, the toebox is fairly decent and I think I'll be ok with them.

As a reference, my running shoes are mens size 8 1/2, width EE. Womens just didn't really go wide enough.

Good luck! Try some on, I know some brands tend to be a bit wider than others even in the "normal" sizing.

I wonder if cycling sandals would work well for you? Since they're more adjustable than "regular" bike shoes, they might fit. I *love* mine - wear them road biking all the time!

Wear with wool socks and waterproof socks in the winter.

Good luck!

Sidi mega wide begin at size 40. These are technically a men's shoe so the extra width is nice for us wide footed folks. They carry two mountain shoes that are mega width - Dominator and Bullet. The Bullet is a little more affordable.
