well, guys, the $$$ (or at least most of it) has been returned to my visa account.
Smart cycles run by Alex is a basically honest shop, with some fundamental short comings. It appears that things are not written down. If you do not write things down, people tend to forget stuff. And make mistakes. And customers (Like me!) get very anxious and become irritating because we keep asking questions because things were never written down in the first place.
I only ever dealt with the one guy, (so he can't blame it on his underlings)
in fact, he blames it on me, choosing instead to rewrite history.
so I just wanted you all to know that minus shipping (which he said he'd pay) and minus 10% restocking fee on the frame AND the paint, I have gotten my money back.

Mimi,
I am pleased to hear you received most of the money back. Personally I think you should have received a full refund. I am just glad this was not dragged out any further. The entire ordeal must have taken quite a toll on you.

Trek, when I move to Italy I'll buy an Italian bike. I will probably buy locally.
the amount of miles that bike frame logged just in the few months when I owned it boggled my mind!

Mimi, I know it's not the bike you wanted, probably can't be equiped as a cross etc.
But if I had come to Seattle with my bike and you'd tried it ('cause we're close in height, TE) .... you'd want one. :D or if you are ever down this way

I STILL want one.

Very likely will buy a Davidson. custom ..
to go with my Peter White wheels and my campy record components that I already have gathered up and own.

Glad you got your money back and a Davidson is a great bike. I've known several people with those and they love their bikes.

Susan, they make cool bikes but their website was difficult for me to navigate.
Thanks! I loved the guitar one.
YOu know, the idea of a bike shop 8 miles from my house (all down hill) that would MAKE my bike is getting more and more appealing.

Yay!
1. That part is DONE.
2. I'd get a Davidson in a heartbeat. That's great!

That's what I'd do....and I'd get them to do me a totally unique paint job that would be the coolest ever. :) And just think of how they could help you with all the dozens of adjustments and changes you might want over time!

Great news, Mimi. Was afraid you'd have to resort to more drastic measures. Really glad it worked out.. though I agree with everyone else that it was lame of him to gip ya the restocking fee and the shipping.
LAME **&^$E. Totally would not buy from them ever.

Wish several of us lived in that area. So the word could be spread.

It's being spread. this is a very strong tool for getting the word out.
and maybe when you can walk into his shop and look him in the eye
and SEE first hand what you are getting, it's different. He sells good bikes.
